Hello all. I've been reading the Monaco forum for quite a while and I'm most appreciative of all I've learned from your experiences.
I'm very happy with my 2002 Dip. Low milage, great features and it suits our life style. BUT, I'd like to upgrade the original B/W Jensen backup camera to a new color unit with the addition of side cameras.
The thought of installing a new unit, making changes to the dash and running the wiring harness is daunting. Has anybody done a similiar upgrade and what can you tell me about the upgrade?
I'm looking at the Voyager Tri-View system. I'd appreciate any reviews of the Voyager system anyone might have; or suggestions of another system to consider.
Thanks again everybody.

We have found that the side cameras are pretty useless. The mirrors work much better.

Hmmm. I just assumed that the latest would be the greatest. Well, we all know what happens when you assume..
Thanks Luke

I love my side view cameras and use them all the time. The mirrors work just fine but the cameras show more area and are a great "extra" check.

I second the idea that the side cameras can be a useful "second checK'.
As for changing out the unit you have, I did a similar swap on by old coach which was an 06 Knight. It had Weldex B&W system and the contrast was pretty poor, so I wanted to go with a color unit. I bought a Weldex color camera and a new screen and it was plug compatible, so the swap was pretty easy. I left the side cameras B&W.
However, after doing that change, and then looking at the connections on my new coach, which is a different brand, I found that the connectors are virtually the same. So you may find you can use your existing wire, at least for the rear camera you already have in place. Even if you have to put new connectors on it, you can likely use the same wire. And wiring the front cameras should be pretty easy since you have have a lot of space to work with and the wiring just has to go up to the rear of the firewall.
Good luck.

We also have a Jensen B&W in our 01 Dip and would love to have a newer, better color unit, is this a plug and play? If I DIY how much might it cost?

My side cameras are pretty useless while driving. I don't want to look down at the screen if I am getting ready to move over because it is easy to lose situational awerness when you do that. They are useful at night parked at WalMart, Flying J or Roadside Rest Area as security cameras. I have a screen beside my bed and if I hear something I can turn on all the docking lights and the side and rear cameras and look around and see who is there then I let Mr. Glock go from there. The one in the right front mirror also shows who is at the front door.
If you want to update and find out what will plug into existing wiring or what you would have to change then I recommend calling RV Cams and talking to them. These guys are the experts and know all the systems out there.

I represent ASA Electronics, the producer of the JENSEN brand of televisions, stereos, and speakers and the Voyager brand of observation monitors and cameras. At ASA, we strive to provide excellent customer service and product satisfaction and would like to offer some assistance in this matter.
We have adaptors available to allow the use of your existing camera cable to connect with our Voyager monitor. This will save you from needing to run a new cable to the rear camera. I would recommend calling one of our Technical Service representatives for assistance with obtaining the necessary parts for your observation system upgrade. You can reach us on our toll free technical support line at (877) 845-8750. We are available M-F 8:00 AM until 6:00 PM EDT.
We look forward to hearing back from you.

I like the side view cameras and check them whenever changing lanes. Joe

Would it be possible and leave the side cameras on all the time (on a split screen monitor), and use them as rear view mirrors?

This is possible using our AOM7694 monitor. You can select single/split/tri/quad view modes while in manual mode. Tri mode will show the rear camera as the main, with both side cameras as overlays so all three can be easily viewed.
You can designate which cameras are active in the split-screen mode, if you prefer to only see the two side cameras.
Once a trigger is activated, that input becomes active and will go into full-screen until the trigger is removed (turn signals or reverse lights).

If I have a BW monitor does that mean the camera is also BW only? If I change the monitor out for a color one it won't work in color because the camera is still BW only?

My unit has a rear view camera. I wanted to leave that one alone and just add two side cameras with an additional monitor. Is this possible?

I changed out my dash and moved the back-up monitor to a better location. I installed a color AOM7694, a motorized color rear camera, and two color side cameras. The rear camera works great as I can look down at the hitch and then move the camera up so I can see clearly what is behind me. The side cameras work, but I don't like them at all. They can be set to turn on when you select the turn signal, but I didn't do that. I don't like the side camera as they do not show up clearly what is beside me. The mirrors are much better and now I never use the side cameras. The AOM7694 and motorized rear camera were a GREAT improvement.
