Basement Door Gas Prop
I have a couple that need replacement. There isn't much in the way of labeling on the ones on the coach so I looked for some the correct length. They are available from 20 to 120 lbs of pressure. What size do you think a door would require?

Dennis, I checked a couple of my full-size bay doors and they have 60 lb. struts. The number starts with "C16" so I think they are 16". I didn't measure the length but that looks about right.
Don't know if yours will be the same, but 60 Lb should be fine as long as you get the length right!

This is the extended length. If you open the link there are dimensions listed.
I tried to use a heavy rod on my small door and I could hardly close it and it popped up hard when I started to open it, that's why I went with 2 different sizes.

It looks like I should measure the extended length?

Is your hinge on the upper edge or the leading edge? Do your doors open up or sideways?

Maybe get a fish scale (a device a fisherman uses to weigh his catch, not the outer protective cover of a fish) and weigh your open door. I'd be afraid that too much force might damage the connections or hinge, and too little won't hold the door open. Unless of course, you can find the manufacturer's spec.

On our 2001 Dynasty, I replaced one of our gas props with a 20 inch - 40 pound. Fits perfect. Got it at Camping World for $10.99 last year.

It opens up. The props have to hold the entire weight of the door. I have two storage doors that slowly droop and the door for the electrical compartment doesn't stay up at all.

I think 20" sounds about right since the gas part of the strut is about 11".
