Basement Heat
Does anyone know which propane furnace (front, rear, or both) vents into the basement? I’ll be traveling and boondocking in January and want to be sure to run the proper furnace to keep plumbing thawed. I have a 2005 Diplomat 40PDQ.

My 2006 Diplomat does not have any venting to the basement. It does have an independent heater in the water bay.

Look for a switch on your hallway panel that says "System Heat". If you have this then you will have a small 12 volt heater in the wet bay. Thats what mine has.

And make 'real' sure that little 12v heater is working. They seem to be prone to failing.
An alternative is to put a couple 100watt light bulbs in the bay, usually does the trick. But, if you're boondocking w/o access to 120vac, that may be a problem.

Steve,
Sorry but Monaco did not provide a path for the furnaces to heat the basement or tanks. When we first purchased our 2006 Diplomat and I discovered the furnaces did not heat the tank area I was in shock. Monaco ran ducts in the floor above the tank area but did not make the effort to provide heat to that area. Very stupid if you ask me. We had to repair the puny DC powered bay heater and did not feel safe with that being the only source of heat down there. Our coach does not have the heat pads under the tanks. If you do then you are lucky. We added a small 110 VAC heater that plugs into the block heater outlet. We never use the block heater. If we are traveling in cold weather and the unreliable DC bay heater fails we just turn on the generator and the 110 VAC heater keeps that area from freezing. It also heats the area from shore power while parked in cold weather. Something you might want to think about.

We've never had a problem when staying for extended periods in temps down to 16 degrees F overnight. We run the system heat (little automatic 12v heater) to keep the service bay from freezing and heat-tape and insulate the external waterline, hose bib and riser assembly.
The 12v heater in the service bay will drain the coach batteries if you are not plugged in to shore power.

Our's won't - but maybe because it's never worked, even after I paid someone $300 to fix it

Well... ours works but we've never tested it to see if it actually does drain the batteries. But that's what our manual says.....
