I have 2 engine cranking batteries that are only 2 years old and it seems like every 3 to 4 weeks they are covered with white corrosion and i take baking soda and clean them up but of all the motor homes i have had this is the only one that does it. Its in a 2008 beaver contessa and i park the coach in palm springs for 6 months and in the state of washington the other 6 months. Should i be shutting the battery disconect at the rear of the coach off.

Is this the top of the batteries of the terminals? Use Di-electric grease to protect terminals.

Ken,
What you describe could be that your batteries are being overcharged. If you have a BIRD, it will tie the starting batteries with the coach batteries when the coach is plugged to shore power. If the coach battery bank is deeply discharged the charger will stay in the bulk charge mode longer and if tied to the chassis battery could overcharge the chassis battery. You might want to check your inverter setting for the charge rate for the size and type of your battery bank.

I use a spray protectant on the terminals. I replaced the starting batts in our coach a year ago and none of the "white powder" has appeared. My starting batts are not on a BIRD, they are kept up by a solar panel when parked, even if we are on shore power. That condition suggests overcharging.
