Hi All, I am going to be in need of New Batteries for my 2001 Dynasty soon my Original Interstates are 10 plus years old and still working fine but I think I would rather be prepared for this next season.
I was planing to go with Interstates from Sams but they don't carry them anymore. They seem to be switching to Duracell, but I am not sure if all the stores are. I have read that Costco is now carrying Interstate but I have not seen them in any stores near me here in NY. Are the Duracell equal to the Interstates?
My Dynasty has 4 2200 series 6 Volt Workhorse and 1 8D Workhorse. I would like to use the same or similar wet cell type.
Any thoughts or experience?
thanks
Robert

I purchased new batteries late this summer ( 8 years ). What I would suggest to anyone is to shop at a lot of places. Sears had batteries that were over a year old and tried to tell me they were just new to the store, so they must be new. Some others had nice prices w/low warantee time. And the warrantees are declining, meaning; the longer they last the lower the warrantee is. Some shops tried to tell me that they didn't even know what I was talking about when I noticed the dates on the batteries.

The six volt golf car batteries at Sam's are very nearly identical to the ones you have now... In fact odds are very good the same company makes them.
The 8D is .. Well it's the equal of 2 six volts in series for capacity, however the peak amps may be higher on the 8D due to the construction of the plates.
I do not know if Sams or Costco carries an 8D.. You can get them at RV places, and any battery store (IE: Interstate batteires) can order one.

I have ben using SAMs batteries for years in the RV's and our two golf cart, we have had good service especially in the coach but we do use the pulsetech powerpulse to help extend the life.

Robert,
We installed a residential frig in August that runs on the inverter. That prompted me to install 4 of the 6 volt Duracell golf cart batteries from Sam's Club. So far so good. Just make sure you don't do a dumb thing like I did. I went to the rack and loaded up 4 golf cart batteries, paid the bill and went home. Started to install them and noticed I had loaded up four 8 volt golf cart batteries and not 6 volt. Back to Sam's! .

I purchased my batteries at Sam's earlier this year. Yes, I did get the Interstates at the time but they don't carry them anymore. I'm not worried about that if something happens with these in the near future I'm sure they'll pro-rate them for a replacement. Just keep your receipt from wherever you purchase them.

Thanks all, I heard from somewhere that Costco is or will be carrying the Interstate. Can anyone confirm that?
Since my Interstate Batteries lasted 10 plus years I would really like to get them (at a reasonable price). On our recent trip out West I checked the Sams and 1 Costco. Sams had Exide or Energizer, then started the shift to Duracell they did have the 8D, at least the stores West of PA. Does anyone know if the Duracell is equal to the Interstate?
Robert

After reading this thread I looked at Duracell batteries at Sams yesterday. They had a pallet of 6 volt golf cart batteries sitting along the wall that had a shipping tag on them dated 10/2010. Check the manufacture date before purchasing one. I was really surprised at this because of their volume.

Did you look at the date code on the battery terminal or a shipping tag on a pallet? I would find this very surprising also if they were sitting on batteries over one year old. I looked at some in Sam's a few weeks back and they were one month old.

Couldn't see the batteries because the pallet was in shrink wrap with just the shipping tag. Batteries on the shelf were fresh. Strange! I asked the tech and he had no answer except to say they were stock.

The shipping date/manufacturer date is not as important as the "Charge Date" (They tend to ship them dry) Make sure you keep the receipts.

I'm thinking I will change this spring since my batteries are 7 years old this month. Maybe I'm jumping the gun and can get 3 more years like Robert.
Don't think I'll chance it but I am curious about the 8D batteries. Still not quite sure what they are but will they work in place of the 6 volt batteries we now have? We now have the Samsung fridge which has run fine on the old guys but more capacity probably wouldn't hurt, I guess.

Jim,
The problem I see with the 8D batteries is they are very heavy for one person to muscel around. I try to do all my work myself and would not be able to lift those bad boys and put them in the tray without some serious effort. At my age I might end up getting hurt. I also have a bad back that I would not want to agitate.
