battery booster/charger

I think my solenoid (Trombetta 144 1211 010) located back next to
battery banks, is bad.

Here is the part in my '06 Diplomat

http://www.murcal.com/Catalog/Bear-D...y/114-1211-020

Questions... is this part used for both adding current to the chassis
batteries AND controlling the charge current from the alternator?

Also, did I see a write up somewhere on how to service/re-build
one of these solenoids?

Thanks!

If it is the same as my 2008 knight yes it does multiple functions including connecting the house to the chassis batteries when using the boost switch to start the coach. if coil is warm to the touch coil is activated and connecting the house and chassis batteries if the chassis batteries are not being charged when the solenoid is activated possibly the contacts within the solenoid are corroded as were mine. I drilled out the four rivets disasembled cleaned contacts, coated with dielectric grease, reassembled with nuts and bolts been ok for the last two years

That number should be the correct one with silver contacts. It shouldn't go bad so soon. the -010 is the one that normally goes bad.

I replaced mine in the first 6 months on my 08 HR Endeavor. It was green and gluey inside. I have rebuilt it and actually placed it back in service after the new one acted bad just two years later. It too had gotten green inside. The last revision I drilled cooling holes and mounted it so any moisture cannot get trapped. I believe the heat and cool cycle due to my solar turning it on and off during the day allowed moist air to be drawn in and then the moisture is trapped.

When in doubt, change it out. It is a bit tricky to diagnose if one battery bank is not very low and drawing a lot of current through the contacts which will then show a voltage drop. It will let you down if you need it to work during an auxiallary start situation.

Installed the Trombetta. Wow, fast shipping from Murcal, nice!

Not sure if the new one changed much, it is cooler to the touch though.

Now take the old one apart and take a picture please. Great for future references. It is easy to suggest someone replace a fuel filter or battery but no one believes a solenoid may need to be replaced on occassion.
