Generally the step above the batteries either lifts up or lifts off (Mine it is hinged so it opens up but I have an Intruder, different from yours)
Suggestion: check that, and once it is open take a bottle of either Testor's Model paint or nail polish, Bright red, and paint all the wires hooked to the POSITIVE post which run off to somewhere. (If you have jumper wires between two batteries you need not paint those)
You can use black on the Negative wires
Do this now.. before you need to change batteries, and when you do need to change batteries.. Touch up the paint the day before.
NEXT: if those are flooded wet cells, with a cap you can remove (Either single cap or triple cap) read up on how to maintain them.
If they are Sealed VRLA batteries (Maintenance free) Read up on those a well.
WHY: Average battery life if you do not know how to car for 'em, 1 year
If you do.. approaches 1 decade.
