We're new owners, newbies, rookies, etc. Just purchased our first motor home last month and are getting ready to hit the road full time at the end of October.

We're getting along pretty well learning the ins and outs of our new rig, but have had a heck of a time trying to figure out the system heat.

1. The "system heat" light inside above the front passenger seat does not work.

2. The heater and fan do not turn on.

3. You can hear a click when you turn the knob, but I'm guessing that it is simply responding to the temperature much like any other thermostat would.

So - first guess is to check the fuse(s). Where are they hiding?!?!?!?

Would love to find a 2001 Endeavor "mentor" to help me determine if there is just one, or a handful scattered around that I'm missing.

I'd leave this for my other half to address, but he's out of town this week and temps are dropping into the 20's this week. Don't want anything to break before we even get rolling!

Any help would be greatly appreciated...

BTW - I have looked at the manual and schematics, searched the forums, etc. but can't find anything that relates specifically to the bay heat (or the 01 Endeavor).

Michelle,

On our coach there are two lights associated with the system heat on the control panel. One should come on when you turn on the system heat but the other does not come on until the heater comes on. The heater does not come on until the service bay temp goes to about 40 degrees. If you can locate the temp sensor for the service bay you can hold an ice cube on it until the heat comes on. The stock service bay heater does not put out much heat and they usually go bad because of the failure of an internal overtemperature protection device. My advice is to use a back up heater plugged into 110 VAC or a drop light.

Good luck,

Bob

Michelle,

I own a 2002 Windsor. My "System Heat" switch is above the passenger seat in an overhead cabinet. Mine operates differently than Bob's.

When you turn on the System Heat Switch, the switch itself does NOT light up. However, when the snap disc mounted in the Service Bay reaches its set point of around 40F, the System Heat switch will light up RED along with the RED indicator lamp mounted next to it.

My heater has been removed because it was totally rusted from water intrusion. I threw it out and haven't needed to replace it.

If it's that cold outside, I just drive farther south until I find warmer weather.

Success!!!

Well, I messed with the switch again, and the temp dropped to 14 degrees last night. Voila - the light finally came on and we're looking good! Nothing like trial by fire!

Tried a couple of space heaters but weren't able to find one that would fit in the bay. So I'm very happy that we were able to get the heat to work.

Looking forward to heading south soon - but we're in SE Idaho til the end of the month. Then we'll be en route to warmer climates. Moab first. Then who knows....
