Beaver Door Latch Broken

Hi All,

We pulled into the campground today and when we went to open the door, the lower rod that the door latch wraps around fell to the ground. The bolt sheared right off.

I am guessing it needs to be drilled out first and replaced. Any see this sort of thing before?

Rick

What year/model is your coach Rick?

So the threads are still in the door jam? If so, maybe a left hand drill bit will work.
The left-twist bit is supposed to drill into the broken bolt and then (hopefully) catch and unscrew it in the process - or worse case it will drill all the way through it, then you use an easy-out extractor.
Good luck.

Thanks, Countryb! It is a 2006 Beaver Patriot Thunder.

Still trying to figure out how it happened.

Rick - suggest you stick your coach details in your signature. Will get you better quality answers.

No easy fix, do as CountryB suggests. Don't know how hard the metal is but you will need some patience and a very good bit. Also, if you haven't done this before, some lubricant for the bit.

Thanks for the advice CountryB and Distaff. I have gotten the sheared bolt out without any difficulty. The looks like an automotive striker bolt. I am attempting to locate a match.
