Hi, it's me again. Still looking for the right motorhome (and a good deal). I've been looking at some late 90's Beavers and noticed that the window seals are melting (for lack of a better word) between the window panes. It looks like they are being sucked up into window. Does anybody know what this is and should it be worried about or can it be fixed?

I'll try a picture, never done that here.

I had this happen with most of my windows in my 97 Monterey but I sold the coach before replacing them. It's my understanding that they had a lot of problems with the windows during that time frame and the only way to fix them is to replace the entire window.

That is the spacer material being sucked inside the insulated unit. It is usually black and the brand name is Swiggle manufactured by Truseal. This happens a lot on residential dual glazed units that were manufactured with Swiggle spacer, usually the smaller windows. Unfortunately the only fix is replacement of the insulated unit

I've seen this before on a number of coaches. The seal between the panes of glass is failing. Sometimes the seal migrates into the viewing areas and sometimes the window fogs between the panes. I heard that dual pane windows do have a limited life in this regards and some manufactures of RV in this time period were particularly bad - and these were actually high end motorhomes (like Beaver).

The standard fix is to replace the entire window but there are now some vendors that advertise repairing the window with a new seal. I've never tried them but you might check them out. Do a web search for "Fogged RV windows" and you will find more information. Or you can seach this site - I'm sure there's more on this in this forum. This seems to be the downside to dual pane windows in RVs. My own RV is 19 years old with single pane windows that are still good but of course more heat, cold and noise come through than if I had dual panes.

We call it "seal creep" and had 4 repaired locally for about $800 with a 5 yr warranty. It was cosmetic on our MH. There wasn't any fogging/moisture between the panes. We had it done when the paint shoppe had to remove the windows to paint the coach. Once we delivered the windows to them, the glass company had to pull the glass out of the frame, pull the panes apart, clean the glass, install the new seal, reseal the panes together while putting a dry air vacuum on them, then put them back in the frame.

The glass guy explained that there is a small chance they might break the glass when taking them apart $$$$

There is a place in Florida that fixes such problems. You'll have to ship them your windows. suncoastdesigners.com

I don't recommend the company that did our windows, because they were a pain to deal with.

Hope this helps

I found a couple of company's out here on the west coast.

RV Glass Solutions in Eugene, OR and Phoenix, AZ.
RV Glass Solutions, Motorhome Side Window Repair

Motion Windows (Peninsula Glass), Vancouver, WA
Windows for Custom REcreation Vehicles - Motion Windows

I'll let you know how they did. I plan on getting that done next week too.
That Suncoast set-up in Florida sounds great, but I'm not driving that far for the fix.

Thanks, Mike, Issaquah, WA
