I would like to add addition shocks to the bed. I have a standard mattress which is very heavy. Can one add two more shocks which then would allow for 4 shocks. How did you mount the third shock? Photo would be great.

I have a 2004 Endeaver

I added 2 extra shcoks to mine, I placed them on the outside of the bed frame adjacent to the ones on the inside. I bought them and the mounts from Gas Struts & Brackets, they have the same parts as the original struts.

We added a 14" thick pillow top mattress and had to improve the lifting system. I added heavier shocks ( from the cited web site), but kept the basic configuration. I strengnthed the mounting points by using thin plywood and spreading the load over a wider area.

Robert,

I had the same problem and added the third shock and a prop rod. After adding the extra shock, I do not need the rod to hold it up any more.

Thank you, do you have the web site address where you obtain the supports? Where did you obtain the prop rod?

Do have the web address ? Did you get the part # off the strutt or from Monaco? If you need this again any changes you would make.
Thanks for your help!!!!

Robert,

Here is where I purchased mine....Also, don't forget to order the mounting brackets. I just matched the strut pound numbers on the existing struts and ordered the same. I made the prop rod from parts found in my garage using a plastic mop handle. After adding the third strut I dont need the prop rod it stays up on its own.

Robert- with stronger struts you will not need the safety bar...on my set up, I have to push hard down to put it back down ( easy to get it up though!).

I got the P/N right off the strut, the web address is in the link that I posted. www.Futuresalesrv.com I think the P/N that I orderd is ML26-160.

We always had trouble with the heavy bed and after changing the mattress out for a pillow top it was almost impossible to lift just to get the prop under it. I added two more gas struts to the outside of the bed just like the factory ones on the inside and problem solved. My wife can even lift the bed now and it stays up without a prop.

I originally mounted extra pistons to the wood covering the motor for the slide. The mounts kept breaking loose and I realized that I couldn't take the wood cover off of the slide motor (box under bed) if I had an issue.

I welded up a piece of angle iron to flat plates, one on each end of the angle iron, and then through bolted the plates to the sides of the bed frame. I also made plates for the wood the bed is resting on because screwing the piston supports to the wood, did not hold up. I through bolted those plates also. I run four pistons and they work great. I have a support that swings down for safety, but it's no longer needed.

I moved the bottom mounting location to the foot of the bed. Keeping them at the same angle. I now only need one to lift and hold the bed up.
