SRT... I am new enough that I can't answer that yet -but I will ask the opinion of a few here in the park...along with linking this to the Crossroads forum..
I am also curious to that question...

We just drove 20 from I-5 to Boise about a month ago. There are areas in the road where slips have required repair. The road is generally good with many pullouts to allow traffic to pass. It is winding climbing steep gorges terrain but very scenic as it follows a rushing river. We made it from Harrisburg to Burns in one easy travel day. the traffic didn't pick up till we hit Sisters, from there to the other side of Bend it was trafficy all the way.

We drove Hiway 20 last year from Harrisburg to Bend and loved it. Ron described it well. It is a very beautiful drive. Don't be freaked out by the warning signs for trucks. There were several at the beginning (before Sweethome) that I stressed about a little, but found that it was kingpin measurements they were warning about. We had no issues at all.

I drove our Camelot from Springfield on 126 to get to 20 and then into Bend and it was fine. Just make sure you stay off of 242 as there are length restrictions.

It is my understanding that you can't even drive through on 242 in any vehicle because part of it is closed completely for repairs

We will be leaving Deerwood RV Park Saturday for 6 days at the Expo Center RV Park in Redmond. We are planning on taking 126 out of Eugene to 20.

I guess it depends on if you are coming from the North or the South. According to the local Oregonian RVer here at the Park...there would be two different preferred routes.
(The south route will be just over 3 hours. He states it is the prettier drive. The north route will be abt 2 hours 40 minutes.)From the South:

1. I-5 to exit 188A
2. Turn right at OR-58/Willamette Hwy 72.3 mi
3. Turn left at Crescent Cutoff Rd 12.0 mi
4. Turn left at US-97 62.7 mi and into Redmond.

If you are coming from the north he says 126 to 20 and into Redmond from there.

Just a locals opinion....

Could be...I don't know what the current condition of SR-242 is. However, it's a moot point for anyone in an RV since this is a road you don't want to drive with anything other than an automobile (take a look at the road's description in the Mountain Directory West to see what I mean).

Just for giggles today (we had to go to Redmond to get Liquid O2 for my travel bottle) we took Hiway 126 west to Hiway 20 then traveled on 20 to Albany. Very scenic and windy. Sure would be nice if they would work on straightening hiway 20 here and there.

We left Deerwood RV Park yesterday morning for Redmond. Since it was raining on the northern route, I opted for the southern route. It is a pretty route along lakes and over the 5128 foot Willamette Pass. There were only a few curves that required me to slow from 55 mph. There also weren't many trucks.
