Big Boy Contacts

Awhile back someone in this forum posted the part # for replacement contacts for a Big Boy relay. Apparently they are for some common solenoid. Does anyone have that information? Thanks

I think this thread is what you are looking for and the product was by Blue Sea.

I just updated that other thread. Blue Sea solenoid worked five but would not link up to charge both banks of batteries. Went back to big boy.
Cant help with the contacts.

distaff: Thanks but that is not the right thread. It was a kit to repair some sort of automotive solenoid that also worked for the big boy. Was inexpensive. I think it was an AC delco item. I tried a search but this forum has a horrible search engine.

On mine there are two inexpensive solenoids used to bridge the BIRD and Boost button to the Big Boy. I am sorry that I can't remember the brand, but I got my replacement at Grainger, and it was about $5.

I can probably get a look at it this week and send you a picture if you haven't figured it out. I'm picking mine up from the diesel shop later this week so I'll have it at the house for a day. I have a picture of someone else's run box, but it is very poor resolution.

Did a little digging in my old posts and it was a Cole Hersee RC-400112-NN. The way it is wired there are two of them, but one of them gets an input from the BIRD and one from the Boost button, with an output to the Big Boy.

The clincher was that the boost button wouldn't get power to the starter and the starter batteries were discharging on shore power.

Thanks for the help. Maybe I did not make myself clear ( happens). The kit that was mentioned is not a solenoid. It is contact parts that fit inside the Big Boy. I did some more digging and it may be a kit for a Delco MT50 starter solenoid. The MT50 is a common HD truck starter. I think it included the 2 studs and the disc. When I find the time to take my BigBoy apart maybe I will just go to a good auto electric shop. Probably off the shelf parts.

The link is for a so called service manual for a Big Boy Relay. Figure 2 shows the 2 studs that have contacts inside the solenoid. The disc is somehow attached to the plunger. Those 3 parts were in that kit.

I'v never heard of such a kit. Very interested if one exists or if the parts are available at all.

I cleaned mine following the instructions posted in the PDF (I think those are the ones put together by Mike Canter).
