Angry Big Mistake

I was trying to latch the shower door closed in preparation for our departure from our camp site, and yes the MH was up on jacks.ush a little to hard on the latch and the door exploded in my hands! What a surprise! There was glass flying everywhere. We found little pieces up by the drivers seat. Besides the mess, it cut the He.. out of my arm, but I got the bleeding stopped them proceeded to clean up the mess.
The next morning I call Monaco parts to find out if they had a new door in stock in Coburg, as we were just a day away, but they had to special order it from the manufacturer in Elkhart... The cost only $544 plus shipping, but they did give me the part number and the vendors part number.

A quick call to Mega RV Parts and a return call from them and a new door is on the way to my home for $195 plus shipping. Monaco warned my they have a markup, but ovet 2 times the cost!!

They lessons learned: 1 - Wait until the MH is back on the airbags just like the slides before trying to latch it. 2 - Use of force isn't good in this case, the bigger hammer theory doesn't work. 3 - Mega RV Parts is great!!! Glad they sponsor this forum.

Does that mean you can't use your shower while the MH is leveled on the jacks?

Should I pull the slides in with the MH on the levelers or pull them in when the levelers or up? Same about when you extend the slide, with levelers up or down? Plus has any one replaced the seals around the slides. Had a price to have done on 2002 Rexhall 36' with 2 slide for 3000.00. Seals are not that costly but they said they have to pull the slides off because of the way the mfg, put them on. Has any one had there seals replaced?

Visit a glass shop and see if they can remove the door frame and install new glass (or you can remove the frame and take it in.

Suggestion.. Request special glass. it is more expensive but. Read on.. Herculite (as best I can spell it) or Hercurvite (Likewise) are the glasses I'd suggest. These, should they shatter, honeycomb and you can actually walk barefoot over what is left

Or automotive type safety glass.

I like the first two better though.. This type of glass is used for basketball backbords and I've seen and handled the shattered remains, bare handed, no injury.

The glass is also stronger.. But it is the shatter mode that is most important.
