My coach left the factory with Bilstein shocks and it rode like it had bricks for springs. The Bilstein shocks that I purchased last year were totally different shocks than the ones I took off. (They looked the same, but they are made totally different).
Now our coach rides and handles like an absolute dream. I believe that if you are comparing the Bilsteins that you take off to the Konis that you put on, you will say that the Konis are the better shock. I also believe that if you compare the Bilsteins that you take off to the new Bilsteins that you put on, you will say that the new Bilsteins are the better shock.
However, I also believe that if Bilstein wants to retain any position in the RV market, they had better start talking honestly about their product. When I ordered my shocks, I wanted the Comfort Shock, and their distributors did not know what part # that would be. I ended up getting Bilstein's latest shock at that time, which was not a Comfort Shock, but it rides and handles like a dream.
To date, to my knowledge, no one has given us an honest comparison of new Koni shocks to the new Bilstein shocks. All I hear about is comparing new Koni shocks to old Bilstein shocks.
I think the new Bilstein shocks that I installed are great. I have never used Koni shocks. However, I can't imagine how the Koni shocks could improve anything, because there's nothing left to improve.
I also think that if Bilstein wants to stay in the running, it's time that one of their reps stepped up to the plate and started talking about their product.
