A friend of mine (aka Stallion) has a 2004 Windsor. The handle for the black tank valve does not open the valve--thinks the threads are stripped. The tank is full (yuk!). Any suggestions on how to get the valve open to dump? Thanks.

Hey Flyer...
How are things going?

I have been doing some searching and not having much luck. A couple of things I have found can be viewed here... and also another is at this location...but I don't think that is what you are actually looking for.

Tell Stallion I said "good luck"

If the handle pulls off the shaft he might try a set of vise grip pliers. If the handle and shaft pull out of the valve body and the valve doesn't open he will probably have to replace the valve - not sure there is any neat way to do that with the tank full. Maybe pump it out from the toilet side as best he can.
Good luck.

Hello Flyer,
If the shaft isn't opening the valve and the shaft pulls out then it probably has separated from the valve as Chris-PA as said. I would first try turning the handle in an attempt to rethread the shaft in to the valve. Who knows maybe it was loose and over time finely unscrewed itself. If that doesn't work then he might be able to insert a long bolt with coarser threads into the shaft opening in an attempt to get it to bite hold of the valve. Of couse he will then have to replace the whole valve but at least the tank will be empty. A valve change out isn't hard. Its four bolts and a gasket on either side of the valve.
I can't resist this but it sounds like a crappy job. I hope it turns out okay.
