Brake Controller Monaco Windsor 2002

I'm getting ready to put an electric brake controller on my Monaco. The previous owner put about every concievable plug you can imagine on the rear of this coach but I don't see any controller for electric brakes. There is a 7 pin round plug there. ( I plan to replace with new one ). I'm guessing I'll have to run a control wire up to the cab to come off the controller I'll be installing. I don't believe that I ever saw anything in my wiring diagrams that showed a trailer brake harness. I believe my chassis is a roadmaster because I found a tag in the back of the coach with a serial numeber on it. Any shared wisdom here is greatly appreciated.

Cheers!

We have a 2004 Camelot and there was no controller hook up. I had to tap into a brake light pressure switch under the windshield where you pull the generator slide out. Also the brake light pressure switch completes a ground to make the lights work so I had to run a relay using the ground off the brake light switch to make it work. Then I had to run a wire the length of the RV to the back. Sounds hard but it was not too bad. Running the wire was the hardest part.

Mr. Liar,

That's good info. I read a post from another guy last night. He pulled power and signal from the driver side electrical panel somehow. I guess diesel pushers are a little odd in that there is no typical brake signal switch like on a normal car. The exhaust brakes firing the brake lights also makes it a bit problematic as I don't think you want trailer brakes firing when the exhaust brakes kick in. At leas I have this issue cornered. I just need to figure it out.

THX,

Eric

Yes, you have a Roadmaster chassis built by Monaco.

I installed a Tekonsha trailer brake controller on our 2004 Monaco. It did not have a trailer brake pre-wire. I tapped into the air brake pressure switch in front above the generator. This was pretty easy to find just using a volt meter and having my grandson step on the brake pedal. I tapped into one of the "spare" fuses in the front run box (just under the driver on the outside) for +12v power. I also found a good ground in front. I routed these wires up through the floor next to where the steering boot is.

Like Lar said, routing the brake control wire to the rear trailer hitch is a job! I purchased a 50' length of low resistance aircraft 12 gauge wire and ran it from the drivers dash down through the floor next to the steering boot hole and then back through the center of the chassis. I used an electricians wire puller and pulled the wire through the center chassis 1-2 basement sections at a time (each time pulling it through to the next center basement). It finally comes out in the center of the chassis just in front of the drive axle. From there I routed it down the passenger side frame rail along side the trans and engine back to the trailer hitch. This took us one long afternoon but it would be quicker if we were doing it a second time.

I also installed a new Hopkins HM48470 (combination 7 wire and 4 wire) trailer receptacle on the rear.

Hope this helps!

I have instructions with pictures of how to install a brake controller on my 2002 Windsor. I have never done it but have the file just in case. Another member (Dr4Film) sent me these.

If interested PM me & I'll send the file.

I would be interested in those instructions also please. I have a 2002 Endeavor that I need to wire a Prodigy 3 controller to, may be a little different but maybe not.
Thanks

Brake wiring for 1999 Signature Monaco

It might be of help to many of us if you could post this here or in the "files" section, under towing. ( top menu, more, files, last item is towing)

Thanks
Dave

You can pull a fuse in the front run box so the brake lights do not come on when you use the Jake. It’s the middle 15A fuse (of 3) on the board for headlights and Jake brake.

For those wanting to comment this is not a good idea... do the brake lights come on when you take your foot off of the gas and gear it down in a gas MH when coming down a mountain?

As good as the Jake is on my 08 Navigator (15L engine) I may leave the fuse plugged in except when pulling a trailer so the brakes do not burn up in CO.
