Hi

Does any one know how a piece of wood (MDF with wood contact paper) trim is attached to the side frame of the bedroom slide.

I have been having water leaks for some time on this bedroom slide and it has finally soaked the fake wood in the lower corner. See the pictures below. Well today when I opened up the slide to work on the leak the lower 6 inches of this trim broke off. This is what will happen when MDF get wet. So now I have to build a new piece out of real wood but I need to have some idea how this piece of MDF is attached.

I am a wood worker so the cutting and staining will not be a problem.

Any help would be welcomed

I don`t know what the center piece is made of, but it is probably installed using a pin gun -- If so, pry it off, & the piece you want to replace, will be screwed on -- I have a Camelot, & that is how mine is installed -- Bill Willard

Bill, the center piece which looks like it may be padded leather, comes off. At the top corner of the slide you should have a square medallion of some sort. It is pin nailed to the trim. If you look real close you will see where the pin nails are that have been covered with colored wax.

Gently pry the medallion off using a wide thin pry bar or putty knife. Once it is removed the center padded section can be removed and is also attached the same way. Once it is removed you will see screws holding the wider trim to the metal of the slide.

The trim piece is recessed in the center where the padded section is installed.

Different manufacturers may do it differently.. On mine those trim pieces are attached with double face tape,, Kind of cheap in my book.

Many I have had to re-attach.. With genuine screws.

Oh, as to the sllide leaking.. My slides are "Accu-Slides" and though the cables seem to be coming straight out.. it looks like the "inside" edge has dropped about 1/2 inch.. In fact I'm starting to see a light here (Thanks for making me think about it) the result is the top seal no longer touches the top of the slide.

And I think I just figured out how to fix it.

Thanks to everyone

The center item was just a vinyl covered piece of thin wood that is slightly padded. Holding that on was a long strip of "hook & loop" (velcro) tape. Once I took that off then the complete trim piece just un-screwed from the metal frame of the slide. The trim piece is 6 inches wide x 71'' long x 3/4 thick MDF board. This has a lenghtwise routed out slot the width of the vinyl piece. Then the whole piece of trim was covered with the "NEWPORT CHERRY" wood grain contact paper. Then the vinly covered piece is placed inside of the slot with velcro holding it on the board. Pretty simple, but not as good of quality as I had hoped. Oh well.

I am going to make a complete new piece and this time I will make it out of real wood. It should be fairly simple once I get the wood lumber. I have re-done some of the other cabinets in the bedroom slide in the past so I should be able to accomplish this project. Took out the old analog TV and replaced it with a LCD some time ago. I did all kinds of triming around that TV and matched the "NEWPORT CHERRY stain fairly close.

Here is a pic of that trim piece for any one interested.
