Broken top loop Bilstein Shock replace w Koni?

I must be doing something wrong on the search window. It doesn't pull up applicable results. I remember a whole thread on Koni vs Bilstein can't find it now.

I am thinking either replace my bilsteins with new ones (supposedly improved valve design) or else Konis. What I see so far is they perform the same and bilsteins are $90 vs $160 for Koni. So far I've found four shocks on the rear and two on the front. Supposed to be 10?

If your 2001 Dynasty with tag is like my 2002 Executive you have 4 shocks on front, 4 on rear and 2 on tag for a total of 10, just replaced mine and that is what mine took. One shock per air bag.

I'm thinking going back in with the new valve bilsteins. Think this broken one is covered by their lifetime warranty? Guess I shouid just replace them all? Or just the broken one? Click image for larger version

I do not have experience with Bilstein shocks, but I did replace the stock Monroe's with Koni FSD shocks about 8 years ago on my 2007 Diplomat. HERE were my findings at that time.

That Bilstein looks a lot different than the ones I just installed on my coach. I can't find a picture of the top, but this eyelet on the bottom looks a lot like the one on the top.

Shocks

The picture of the broken top mounting ring appears to be a shock for the tag axle.

What most of us don't / didn't know is that the only thing that keeps the tag from dropping if the drive axle goes over a rise in the road is the shock! Mine broke within 1k miles after the first one broke.

I designed brackets and installed a length of chain to limit the tag axle's movement. If anybody is interested in bracket plans and installation photos get my e-mail from www.roycefamilyassn.org, "contact us" page.
