I had the awning extended about 18" and the slide out. Laid the tube on the slide when I removed the bell cap/tube screws.

Larry and Doni, You are a god send with this fix. We have had trouble with the large awning on the drivers side. Awning came unrolled in wind and ripped. Carefree would not cover it and were of NO help whatsoever. We decided to replace the whole awning including the casing to see if that would fix the problem. It didn't. We have a Carefree installer in our town and I am going to show this fix to him and see if he can do it for us. I was at my wits end and ready to sell this coach. You may have saved my marriage.

Thanks again.

Larry and Donni:
I copied your fix a few months ago and finally got to it last week. My bell housing was about 50% round which probably meant I was one or two trips from loosing my awning as well. I used a 4" long, 1/8" drill bit in my drill press and drilled the housing and the shaft at the same time, then put the 1/8" cotter pin in place. Its not a hard fix before there is a failure. I'd reccomend anybody that hasn't checked, should and will probably realize they need the fix too. Thanks for the great document. You saved me as well.
Have a great day.
Cheers,
Mike
