Camelot (Comments requested!)

Hi,

looking at upgrading to a Camelot around 2008-2009 in the 40 to 42 feet range.

What are the good, bad and ugly about this coach???

Thanks in advance.

P.s. I already visited two today a 2008 40PDQ (RED!) and a 2007 42PDQ(really badly maintained and with flacking fiberglass on the walls, A real piece of *&?*!)

We just upgraded from our 07 camelot 42 pdq. We used it for 6 years and it never let us down. It was a great coach

We love our Camelot. Only complaint is the hot closet, still working to make that better. I've also seen where people have had problems with the Lippert hydraulic pump for the front slides leaking. Lots of post on how to fix.

What do you mean by the hot closet?

If it is like mine, the bedroom closet retains a lot of heat from the engine after a days ride. Once set up and the AC running I will open the closet doors to help cool them.
Lesson learned---Do not store your wine in the bedroom closet.

Thanks JB,

don't worry I don't store my wine in the closet, I drink it while driving... it's a joke!

It makes sense to open the closet to get the hot air out! Thanks for the advice. Since you have exactly the coach I want, did you find any problems worth checking? Any fiberglass cracking/flaking? How is the ride and handling?

We have not had any serious issues with ours. The only fiberglass cracking came from when I drug the rear overhang going up a hill. I saw one post about missing screws on the sidewalls but have not noticed anything loose on ours. As a Monaco owner you are probably aware of the Iota transfer switch issue, ours melted and has been replaced.
The ride is fantastic, when we were looking , a tag axle was one thing I insisted on, was not interested in one without. If there are any questions you have feel free to ask I will try my best to answer.

I have the 07 Camelot 42PDQ with tag and we really are pleased with the coach. I cured the hot closet by building a 4" thick raised floor in the closet and filled it with insulation. I built the raised floor at the same time as replacing the bedroom ugly green carpet so the carpet still matches. The closet sliding doors are about 6" above the original floor so the thicker floor does not look out of the ordinary. The raised floor is also removable so that I can still get at the engine hatch in the closet if need be, although with the side radiator, access to the engine is easy without using the closet floor hatch.

Thanks for your comments.

I see that the PDQ models are selling at a higher price than the bath and 1/2 or front kitchen.

I hope to find the right one at the right price.

Thanks again!

X2 on Harry's post.
After reading the post and emailing several times with Harry, we called ATP and set an appointment. Spent the night in the parking lot and they started the next morning. They were done by noon and we also sped the next couple of hours touring with the owner's wife (can't remember her name). Great company. Better deal if you pay cash.
Did it eliminate all of the heat in the closet, no. Did it make a substantial difference, yes. I would not hesitate to do it again.
Does the coach have Aquahot? We had never had it before, but any coach we get from now on will. Takes up most of a small bay, but well worth the loss of some storage.
The multiplex can be a pain, but love it too and will always want it from now on.
I have a very small mount of checking in the black paint on the rear panel, but I keep her waxed and it seems to not be getting any worse.
Love, love, love our Camelot.
Best of luck.
Cheers,
Mike

The heat in the closet is a problem but not a big problem IMHO. We just made a habit of opening the closet doors and turning on the ac once we got set up. Took about an hour or so and it was fine. Just dont store anything that melts in there.LOL. On the bright side it gets the wrinkles out of your clothes..

Yes, you're right it's a beauty, plus always stored inside is a big plus.

And thanks Happycarz for the closet hint. It might be helpful in the future!
