Can't find Monaco Knight 12V Converter

In a nutshell the problem goes like this. Suddenly the panel for my intelitec EMS went dead. I was trouble shooting it with a tech and found that the EMS main panel had no 12V power coming in. So I need to track down why it is not getting power. I was going to start with the converter. Problem is that I can not find it anywhere. I called monaco and they were no help. RV is a 2003 Monaco knight 34PST.

I have a different rig but my inverter/ charger and transfer switch are all together I n the basement compartment Behind the water pump. I access it through a sliding door inside the main basement storage compartment. Hope that helps.

This is crazy. Is it possible that my coach does not have a converter? I have ripped this thing apart looking for the mysterious converter.

If you are trying to troubleshoot the Intelitec Energy Management System then you may be on the wrong track. There are two power sources that enter the EMS, 12 VDC and 110VAC. The 110VAC comes from various circuit breakers in the AC distribution panel and are routed thru relays on the EMS circuit board. That allows the EMS to shed loads like the rear air conditioner, water heater, washer/dryer, etc. The 12 VDC is for the electronic control circuits and should come from a fused connection to the RV 12 volt system. Even if the converter is turned off there should still be 12 volts present from the house battery bank. Start by using a meter at the EMS and work your way back to see where the EMS is loosing the 12 volt supply. It may be a simple as a blown fuse. My EMS has a fuse right there on the EMS circuit board.

Do you have any D.C. Power to the house or is it all dead?

Hi Evotech; Just wondering, do you only have an inverter or do you have the inverter option. I think on that year of Knight, the inverter with two extra batteries was an option. I know on my 01 Windsor, I need to have the salesman switch on to get power to the EMS panel. Is your salesman switch turned on and you have all the functions working that the switch runs? Interior lights, overhead fans, water pump etc? Not sure if this info helps. Let us know when you get it tracked down. Good luck! Not sure if the inverter/converter is in the right rear bay at the back of the coach.

Thanks to all who are trying to help me out. Here are a few answers.

I have a xantrex inverter/charger. I have 4 house batteries. The salesman switch (battery disconnect I assume) is on. Interior lights and fans work. Hot water heater and pump does not work.

I do have DC power to the house. There is however no 12V power coming into the EMS circuit board. The three pin connector to the board should be supplying power but it is not. I am not clear however where that power should be coming from.

Do you have an Intellitec panel maybe in a back closet? It looks similar to an electrical sub panel you'd find in your house? It's where all your circuit breakers are. On mine, the circuit breakers are in the top half and the bottom half is solid, no space for circuit breakers.

I do have the panel in the back. The problem is that the 12V source that feeds the EMS board is dead. Hence the 12v side of the board is essentially dead.

Ok. The EMS gets it power from that panel. Yes, even the 12 volt.

Turn off ALL 120 volt power sources, shore power, generator, inverter. Take the cover panel off. The 12 volt power is behind where there are no circuit breakers are.

I thought I had a picture of that panel with cover off, but I can't find it. I'm not near the coach to take one now. I'll keep looking and If I find it in my library, I'll post it.

Found it. Your sub panel should look something like this? They can be mounted vertically or horizontally. Turn off all 120 volt power coming in, to be safe before taking cover off.

Here's insides once you get the cover off. Possibly that fuse is blown or might be a loose connection. Hopefully it's easy.

Bill,

A huge thanks for digging out those pictures and for the help. My panel is exactly the same. However the tech from intellitec said that the 12V power comes in from the three pin connector at the top of the board. That harness disappears somewhere in the coach. That harness has no power. The guy said that I need to chase down why that harness does not have power.
