Caravaning to Alaska?

Anyone besides CrazyKnight planning to go to Alaska in the summer of 2016? Sanford

Yup!! Sandy and I are hoping to go. I think a caravan of "gearheads" would be a great idea. When you go on a trip where technical problems could present much more serious consequences than they would in the lower 48, would you rather be with a caravan company that will try to get you help...or have a handful of guys WITH you pitch in and help fix your problem?

Sanford, I think at least one other couple at Q is considering that trip. It was great to meet you and Linda there.

SHHHH...it was a secret. OK maybe not. I am going to get a Mile post ASAP, Alaska trip planner, and with others that have shown some interest go from the what if stage to the planning stage.

So far from Q about 2 or 3 coaches have shown an interest, plus we have a few friends with other types of rigs wanting to tag along. A caravan of "gear heads" with each one bringing one major tool for the trip North, sounds like planning made perfect. I will be trying to keep it to less than 8 rigs total for easier travel. It will more like gypsies meeting in Alaska cities now and again than a fixed itinerary, but we will travel in packs for security and to resolve any major issues that arise.

I will keep YEE posted :-)

I agree with you Van. Linda and I spent 3 months doing Alaska and it was the best MH trip ever. We used the Milepost book as our guide. One of the highlights of our trip last month to Quartzsite was being able to shake your hand and meet in person the man who provided us with the "Van - X - Bars". Your ideas about the Watts Links to help eliminate some of the problems with the Roadmaster Chassis was another great contribution to the enjoyment we now have driving our Monaco. Now we are a member of Crazyknight's short wheel base club with TRW steering boxes. Sanford

I am so sick of watching these shows so my mind can pretend it's there.

We would love to be a part of a trip like that. Alaska is at the top of our list. Sounds like a group I would like to meet too. I've been a gear head all of my life. Built many hot rods over the years and drove the big trucks nationwide back in the day. Can't leave home without a ten ton jack and the big tool box. Semi retired now and I will really retire at the end of 2015 but we are the primary caretakers of my Mom and Dad (84 and 86) and even with a live in helper we can only be gone for about 4 weeks at a time. Some day though. Hope you all have a great trip.

I'm trying to figure out how to take a small metal lathe. We might need it for some roadside suspension or steering mods.

I have a Chinese 7x12 lathe I can let Craig bring from ATL if Barb and I cannot swing it. Good for plastics and aluminum. A little slow on steel.

Sounds like a great plan.

Is this only open to "gear heads?"

Need to bring an air tank along so you can hook all the pancake compressors together to drive air tools. Then there's the wire feed welder. LOL Fun trip would love to do it again. Oh add a 12gauge for the beer or is it bear problem.

Now I am really beginning to wonder if I need to buy a Hypertherm plasma torch to take along. I would sure hate to find out on the road that I need it.

Let's see.....This might be a good opportunity to purchase a few other things I have been thinking about. You can never have too many tools! And, as I have always told my family when they asked for Christmas ideas.....almost nothing lasts as long or pays back as well as a well made tool.
