Hello, my friends....My ceiling fan makes a noise while running. I removed the fan portion due to some excellent advice from Dennis Codello and found the motor runs fine and is quiet. However, the fan blade assembly seems pretty cheezy. Anyone know of a simple and sure way to ensure they are level and balanced? Can I use the penny trick like a S&B fan? Mfg is "Trusty"...thanks..Dennis

The "attachment brackets" of overhead fan blades are made from a pot metal and meant to be bent (slightly). I have found more wobble and noise created from blade placement than from blade weight.
Stand back and have some one slowly move the blades while you note the angle at the end of each blade. Twist the blades so that all are at a common angle.
Then note the downward deflection at the end of each blade - bend the attachment bracket so that the tips are all at the same height.
If the actual blades are sagging (bent), try turning them over before buying new blades.

Once you've done that, then use the U shaped balancing clips in the fan kit to finish the job. I have on in the house, not the MH, that wobbled even after all the straightening and blade twisting. It takes a bit of time to find and balance the heavy side of the fan blade assy but I used a piece of chalk held incrementally closer to the tips of the rotating fan to "mark" the blade that comes closest to the chalk first. I then put the balancing weight on the opposite side blade and moved it in and out till the wobble stopped. I then bumped up the speed to confirm that it was balanced. This only works on fans that are mounted on swivel mounts that can sway the whole fan when rotating. Worked for me!!

One of the fans in our cabin growls and hums annoyingly. When we dismounted the fan, a type designed to hug the ceiling, it ran silently. The vibratin in the motor was using the ceiling as a sounding board and you could hear it all over the building. As it was it was installed without the rubber shock mounts to keep the vibration from transmitting to the ceiling. Putting them back in cut it down a lot but it's still there. The quality of the motor will determine the amount of noise it makes as well as the price. We have an expensive Hunter Brand fan in the bedroom that can't be heard even laying in bed in the middle of the nite.

I was AFRAID that was going to be the answer when I took it off and laid it on the ground. ARRRRGGGGGG.... cheap junk they put in sometimes....OTOH..guess it helps keep the weight down....oh well...something else for me to putz with. Thanks all for the advice.....Dennis
