We have a 2008 beaver that continues to have a white chalking that seems to come form the fiberglass roof. We wash it often but doesnt seem to stop the problem. Can the roof be waxed like any fiberglass/

Whats causing the chalking is the degrading of the clearcoat or paint by uv. No wax that I am aware of can protect it from uv. I suggest using Aerospace 303 which is SPF 40.

You can use 303 once or twice a year or paint the part (white) that Monaco left bare with a good marine deck epoxy or clear coat. Preparation of course is the key to no future problems.

Thanks for the ideas. The manual states thta it is a fiberglass roof ,I cant understand why a roof coating cant last more tha a couple of years. I will try the 303.

Dudes mine does this also and it's from the cheap sealant they use . When I wash the roof I can see the the chalking your describing coming from the white sealants on the roof .it will come down the sides of my motorhome. Luckily it doesn't stain. The stuff will Evan flake of in little pieces sometimes

We have our coach washed and waxed on a 5 month schedule. This includes the roof. We think waxing the roof helps quite a bit. If it weren't so expensive we would ideally have it done every three months. Joe

Pickup a quart of clear roof sealer at a hardware store. Coat the white caulking. No more streaks.

I have done this on several coaches. From that point on, only use the clear roof sealer to reseal the vents and seams. Forget the caulk.

I just wash the roof, and coat it with Mop and Glow. Lasts a few months. Easy to do with a mop.

I have found out that a product called "THRU THE ROOF" will do that job, and I believe it is the best sealer [leak repair] you will find.

I, too, use Mop-N-Glo after washing the roof. It seals in the chalking for a few months. It does not leave the roof slippery.

One caution in applying: Be very careful not to let it drip on to the paint. It is very difficult to remove from the paint once is dries. I sometimes don't notice it until too late, and I just let it weather off. It weathers off the paint much faster than it weathers off the roof.

BTW, there is no clear coat on our roof. I assume that's why it chalks.

I use and know several people that use Mop & Glow household wax on the fiberglass roof. It is great and prevents the streaking. Like said before don't let it get on the paint. I have been using it for several years. I put it on about every 3-4 months after washing.

I used Nu Finish and use wash and wax when I wash the Mh. The roof has only been washed and waxed maybe three times in a year. Seems to have worked, plan to put another coat of nu finish on while out west this winter. I might add it took alot of scrubbing before being ready for the Nu Finish, I doubt the first owner ever washed it. The N F is real easy to put on and to wipe off.

I am not familiar with Monaco roofs but there are two ways that fiberglass is commonly finished. One is gelcoat which is applied to the mold and has a release agent in it, normally silicone, and that is the finish. The other is an acrylic enamel automotive paint that is applied to the fiberglass and has a clear topcoat. In either case uv is a major cause of chalking and color fading. A good uv protectant will help to minimize the effects of uv which can eventually cause the failure of the fiberglass itself. I do not know of any wax that claimes to offer any uv protection.
