I pre-fill with sea foam. Great stuff and cleans the fuel system (injectors) along the way. A shock treatment of sorts.

Several mechanics have suggested this and the sea foam site itself says they recommend filling the primary filter with the product.

Works very well.

I have seen people pre fill filters with atf. I guess it would give additional lubrication upon startup.

Another bad idea. That is a trucker's old wive's tale and is frowned upon by all diesel engine mfrs. These are modern elecronic engines with very tight injector tolerances. Adding anything foreign is not recommended.

All true. However when I owned my shop I once hired a tech from the "country" who swore they pre filled diesel FFltrs all the time w/ATF. We didn't do it at our shop as we kept a diesel can full for just this but I believe he was truthful in that people do do it.
Seafoam?? Ha, That's funny. Our NAPA rep brought by the Seafoam rep one time and he was doing all kinds of tricks with the stuff putting it on his hand and lighting it on fire, just all kinds of stuff. Had all the guys rolling, like a Vegas show almost. "Works on just about everything" he said. Reminds me of the stuff the carpet baggers used to sell in the old west. Million and 1 uses, lol. JMHO.

Use fresh, clean #2 diesel and pour through the outer small holes as suggested. This will filter any particles out from your fuel can via the filter medium itself.

As for the old filter fuel, I pour it on any fire ant mounds or stubborn weeds that are nearby...or clean the bugs and tar off of the MH or cars with it prior to washing them.
