I have neglected to change the coolant filter in the last year, and looking at the maintenance book, I should change my coolant filter every 6 months with the SCA additive in the filter. It looks like I just need a strap wrench and remove and replace the old one. Any pointers on if I'm missing anything or if I need to turn off a shut off valve or anything to minimize coolant leaking out?

Yes there is a valve just above the filter that you will have to close , be careful with the valve they can twist off easily work it back and forth if it hard to move. I am sure you are aware that the WF2121 is the extended drain instead of the WF2071 .

If I remember right there is a rubber gasket that MAY stick to the block.

Thanks on the valve info. Not sure on the WF2121 and the WF2071. I have the fleetguard WF2071 ready for install as that is what my manual says. The current filter on there is a Baldwin filter and I cannot read the number on it until I spin it loose. I guess I'll be able to tell at that time if I can cross reference the numbers. Can you give more info on the WF2121?

check out this link, on engines with the additive in the filter you should check with a test kit to see if the filter needs changed or not. this is how my 2000 350 isc engine is.
(green anti-freeze only i think) hope this helps

The filter does need changing at least once per year because the filter media could start to come apart. I do test my coolant at least once per yr and change the filter.
The WF2121 is stated as extended drain but I use the WF2071 and change it once a year after testing the coolant but I dont put that many miles on my engine each year. The Baldwin should be a BW5071 if it was the replacement for the WF2071.

Thanks Walt,

I'll sleep better knowing I didn't forgot something important.

Ciao.

I FORGOT TO SAY SOMETHING ABOUT THE FILTERS WITH THE COOLANT ADDITIVE IN THEM AND THEY MAKE THE SAME FILTER WITHOUT THE COOLANT ADDITIVE IN IT,THEN THE FILTER TO USE DEPENDS ON THE TEST RESULTS.....

I changed to the OAT type of coolant. No SCAs needed. Good for 3 years then some additive then good for 3 more years. No more out of date test strips and what is it reading exactly.
