Chassis Batteries Not Charging

Hello All, I've noticed that my chassis batteries are not charging. A little background before I proceed. When we purchased our 07 Knight we found out the Monaco omitted the dual battery isolator in the front electrical circuit board. I purchased the part MT960DC from Mega Parts and it was installed. The other day I was checking battery condition and noticed that the chassis batteries read 9.6 volts. Since these batteries were nearing replacement time I decided to replace the batteries since summer is upon us. After installation, I started to check battery status on a day to day basis a noticed that the chassis batteries were reading daily at 12.6. I have since checked the voltage on the Trombetta relay in the battery compartment. I get a reading of 13.3 on the left top side of the relay and 12.6 on the right. I decided to remove the black wire on the front of the relay, I did hear a click, but the voltage remained the same, no change. I understand that this relay is mainly for the battery boast but is it also used in conjunction with the MT960DC to charge the chassis batteries? If so I think this is my problem, if not it must be the MT960DC isolator. Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks

You are correct. I assume the 12.6 side of the solenoid leads to the house batteries? The boost switch uses the same path as the alternator to open circuit in solenoid. I have replaced two solenoids on our Monaco. Word on the street is these solenoids are crap.

Trombetta make two dimensionally identical "Bear" contactors - 114-1211-010 which has copper contacts that are subject to verdegris corrosion (supplied as OEM by Monaco). The other is 114-1211-020 which has silver composition contacts that withstand corrosion much better. Available at a very resonable price from:

Trombetta Bear DC Contactor Family

Chassis Batteries

I put one of those MT960 boards on my old (2005) Endeavor. I never could get it to work right so I took it off. Since, I have heard similar stories from other people who bought them.

DP01. Today I installed the new Trombetta relay, 114-1211-020 which has silver composition contact. Everything seems to be working again just fine. I ordered the relay from Murcal as you recommended. It cost about $40 with shipping which is extremely reasonable. Thanks for your information.

Hi Bobscharber; Just the other day on my 01 Windsor, I was running the coach and checking all the lights. I had the headlights on, and all gauges were lit as usual. Turned the headlight off and shut down coach. Went outside and noticed headlight and all other lights were on. This never has happened before. Went in and ran the headlight switch to on and off a couple of times. Now lights are off. Is it possible there is a short in your headlight switch? These switches do wear out after a number of years. Not expensive to replace. A lot of coaches use a mid 70's GM truck headlight switch that you can get a most auto parts stores. Hope this info helps. Also the dimmer on the back of the headlight switch that dims the dashboard light can cause problems, but if you turn off the headlights the dash lights should go out.
