Hi all - New to the forum. Trying to get some information about safely putting my 5 month old in a 2008 Dip I am in the process of ordering. I am custom ordering a 40SFT with a booth dinette for this purpose, but have been told by my salesmen that Monaco will not install seatbelts since the booth is next to the fridge on one side and the couch on the other.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Our Holiday Rambler came with seatbelts installed under the couch. Look to see if yours has seatbelts there.

There are belts on the couch, but according to CA. law the baby needs to be in a rear facing car seat until the age of 1.

Kevin2008...
First of all...Congrats on your new babies..the 5 month old and the soon to be built SFT!
May I also congratulate you on finding iRV2...I feel this is the friendliest and most helpful RV site on the web.

You will find seatbelts under both front sofas. As far as putting the seatbelts in the dinette... there could be a safety issue involved with the refrigerator being so tall AND running with a propane line to it.
Have you actually verified that the childseat facing to the side is an issue...or if it is an issue in an RV as long as the child is NOT facing front?

The other option..what about removing the smaller sofa and putting a special made small j-lounge with seat belt attached on the small J side? Good luck with your dilemma...

OK...another thing... If you would like to have "Monaco Owners Forum Member" under your display name to the left...just say "Karma Please" and you'll be in!!
Again..welcome to iRV2 ...please vist & post often...

MM

PS.. I love our SFT!!

Just my opinion, but I'm not sure I'd worry too much about how to apply a law that was made for an automobile to a motorhome. I would think that you would want the baby near the front, where you are, and I cannot imagine why he or she wouldn't be perfectly safe in a child seat secured with a seatbelt on the sofa behind the passenger seat.

The SFT is a GREAT floor plan, by the way, but I may be a bit biased.

Kevin;
Congrats on both babies. My daughter and granddaughter (13 months) live with us. We secure the car seat on the front of the curbside couch. We place an overstuffed pillow between the right (front) side of the carseat and the coach wall. She loves it because she can see out. We feel she is perfectly safe.
My Dip is so new that it has only been driven around Houston so far, but we are all planning a trip to Indianapolis in April.
Enjoy your SFT. I really love mine!
Bud
