City Horn on a 2005 Monaco Camelot
I own a 2005 Monaco Camelot 40 PDQ. I see a reference in the manual about a "City Horn". Where is it located and how do I work it ?
Thanks,
Wayne

In my coach the horn bar blows both the "City Horn" and Air Horn. The Air Horn can be switched off.

I have no city horn, but I've considered installing one. OK, I've considered installing a set of smaller air horns under the front. Well, now that I think about it, I guess I was thinking railroad locomotive horns!
Seriously most of us don't have anything but the air-horns. But you can try installing some, should not be terribly difficult. On mine, I think there may be a horn switch on the turn signal stalk as it pushes in like some Ford (Escort, for example) models from the 1980s. I'd just get a set of Hella electric horns which are not expensive, and a relay.

Wayne,
We have a 2006 Camelot PDQ, and I believe that it only has air horns.
Several years ago, we were waiting (second vehicle back) at a four way stop close to our home. From our elevated vantage point, I could see a vehicle approaching the intersection that was clearly not going to stop. The car directly ahead of me started to enter the intersection. Seeing an imminent collision, I blasted the air horns and held them. Both vehicles locked up their brakes and swerved just enough to avoid contact by just a few inches. If not for the loud air horns, one car would have t-boned the other at 45 mph plus.
I believe that the air horns are essential when it comes to such a big heavy vehicle like a motorhome, but that's just me.
Jim

We don’t have a city horn either.
Now at quartzite last year, I think Sanford had a train horn. Talk about getting someone’s attention!!!!!!
Awhile back we were leaving a campground very slowly (5 mph or less) and came up on a couple walking in middle of road. They couldn’t hear us because engine was 40’ behind. They kept walking and walking. When they finally saw us, it scared the living out of them. We weren’t that close but I felt horrible.
I always wondered about a bell ( not too loud and obnoxious) similar concept to a train that comes into a station.

My sister gave me one of those bicycle squeeze the bulb horns! Just the thing for pedestrians. Downside: you have to open your window and hold it out the window to use it! Upside: you can also use it on your bicycle!

Practice...the air horn can be tapped gently in most units. Give it a try.

I noticed there is a short time between when I push the horn button and when the air horns sound. I installed a 'city horn' (regular car-horn) to fill that silence.
Now I can very quickly tap the horn button and have the city horn let out a peep, but if I hold the button longer it lets the big ones chime in.

That's what I'm talking about. How did you do that?

My coach there is a delay, but I can't get just a simple 'toot' out if it. If I use the air horn to notify someone walking in a campground, I'm sure I'd get the "one bird salute'.

I wired the city horn to the air-horn solenoid thru a relay to a hot/fused 12vdc. Then it just takes practice to quickly 'tap' the button and let up before the air-pressure makes it up the tubing to the ones on top.
One side benefit is that the city horn will blow even if there's no air in the lines to alert you to not put anything on the steering wheel, or the solenoid will eventually melt if left actuated ... go ahead, guess how I know .

Uhhhmmm...no?
Actually the steering wheel looked like a good place to set my cordless drill while I was working on rebuilding the 2 front overhead compartments. Right handy and easy to find.
But, if anyone ever wonders, the spring pressure in the Smart-Wheel buttons is less than the weight of a Ryobi cordless 18v drill .
