Coolant Level
Hello:
1997 Dynasty, C8.3 Cummins, has the pictured coolant tank.
I find no High or Low markings,
With a cold engine, how much coolant would be in the tank?
Thanks to all who contribute to this forum.

Nice coach. Our 97 Windsor had the same Volvo coolant overflow tank. I always filled it just to where it starts to flow out the filler neck.
Have you had issues with the Low Coolant Sensor? Its a long round solid aluminum piece screwed into the top of the tank. I had to remove it once every few months and clean it with steel wool and all was well again.

Since changing to Extended Life Coolant, have had no more issues with the sensor (so far). Thank you for the input on the tank level.

Hi Charles; Had the same tank in my 2000 Monaco Windsor. I had to replace it as the threads for the low coolant sensor were stripped. All the coolant markings for low and high levels are on the left side of the tank as you are looking at it from the rear of the coach. Put a mirror up between that frame on the left and the tank and you should see them. I also filled the tank to just where it would flow out of the green cap when cold. That tank is a Volvo tank and is not designed to mount the way Monaco put it in. I have seen that same tank on Volvo delivery trucks and it is mounted sideways behind the cab. Hope this info helps!

8.3 Oilburner
Thank you for the input, I wondered why there were no markings, will check the other side. Appreciate the input, this diesel stuff is still pretty new to me.
Regards

If a siphon system?
I see no reason not to fill the reservoir to the very top COLD run the engine to normal operating temperature and let it puke out the overflow and seek it's own full level HOT and then let the engine cool down overnight and seek it's own cold level, suck it down two inches or so from there and mark it accordingly.

The filler neck on the Volvo tank is situated so you can only fill it just above half.

Thanks to all:
Topped the Volvo Tank up as far as it would allow, given the postion of the neck.
Best wishes.
