Took my Coach into a Cummins dealership for a cruise contro problem. They examined the smart wheel connections, the cruise control module and a circuit board. After two hours of testing they determined that I needed a new mudule ($350). Since they had to order the part, I decided to drive back home (40 miles). When I started the Coach to back it out of the bay, the guidelines on my backup camera did not show on the moniter. It worked before I brought the Coach in for the cruise control.

Now it gets strange. The next thing I noticed was that the cruise control worked. The dealership told me that the module would go bad again and stood by ordering the part. Two questions: 1) Does the cruise control and backup carmera share some wiring? 2) Since the backup camera is tied to the R transmission button to activate, what if any other problems might I have.

Phrog Driver......You have a loom of wires running down the steering column. Sounds like they fixed a loose wire that corrected your cruise control, but the there shouldn't be any connection with the camera since that wiring is in the side console. Did they go into that console chasing any wiring?

They did open up the steering column. They also opened the access panel on the top of the dash. That is where they pulled up a circuit board. Since I didn't watch them take things apart, the circuit board may have been removed to get to the smart wheel module. I have no reason not to trust the dealership so I will wait for the answer and then post it for general information. Thanks for the reply Don. I guess I was just fishing for information.

I've installed two camera/monitor systems. On both of them, the guidelines were provided from the camera. If your guidelines come from the camera, I don't think their work would have affected the guidelines. In fact, when my guidelines failed the camera failed about 3 weeks later.

Thanks for your reply. The guideline problem was caused by me. Seems the unit must be in the auto mode (side cameras work with turn signal) to work. I generally use the manual mode to show rear vision only.

The Vip Cruise Control Module Series II was replaced and all is well there. I was told the module has a stored memory. The memory was lost and regained by unplugging the module and replugging it in. The original module worked for a short while and then lost memory again so it was replaced. Problem solved. I recommend Big Wheel in Hammond, LA for service. Today they had eighteen units from the Hammond Dixie RV dealership on their repair lot. Dixie is the state's largest RV dealer and they have a Camping World just off I-12.

You might want to have a look at VIP Tec web site in case you have problems again.

Yep, looked at the web site when the problem first occured.

When I was piloting fixed wing and rotary aircraft (14 separate models/types over 26 years), I found that I was an excellent pilot, but that did not make me a mechanic. I envy those of you who do all of your repairs....I'm just not in that boat.
