I am looking at a 2004 Monaco Diplomat 40ft. 330 ISC, it has the option called "Cummins EPA Engine Upgrade" is that just another wordage for "we'll take power from your engine give you less fuel mileage to boot! Does anyone have one of these, and how is power and fuel mileage?
Thanks
John G.

We have an '04 Monaco product (32,000lb gross) with the ISC 330 engine AND full Banks kit (supposed to help mileage) We get 7.7 to 7.9 mpg based on 15,000 miles all over the US. There is a reprogramming of this engine that has been discussed here with most folks unhappy.

I have a 2004 Endeavor 40PST . I did change to a high volume air filter which gave me about 1/10 of a mile fuel mileage increase BUT what helped since I have a rear mounted radiator , I changed my direct drive engine fan to use a Horton fan clutch. Improve power at low end and fuel mileage increased by 3/10 of a mile.
I try to keep off of back roads unless I can travel at least 56 mph and in gear #6. If I have to travel at 40 mph fuel mileage goes down and really goes down on back roads with steep hills.
Sweet spot on the highway 62 to 64 mph at 1600 to 1700 rpm.
I checked with Cummins there really is no computer change that can be made to improve power, But have dips set a zero when using cruise control, dealer can use the insight program to set ,takes 5 minutes.
By setting the dips to zero you will notice when using crusie and going up a hill speed will drop as much as 4 mile an hour. By setting dips above zero the computer will increase fuel to compensate on hills to keep speed setting.
If you like to travel with exhaust brake on with cruise there is an inexpensive chip that will allow you to do this. Can install your self ,very easy to do.
Last oil change I added some Lucas , I do not have enough data yet to detrmine if Lucas makes a difference.

They are called droops. It means the fuel will be applied or released a certain speed above or below your cruise speed. It gets set with the Cummins Insite program. Also instead of the switch for your eng brake, you can just have Cummins remove the delay and droop speeeds for the exhaust brake. The trouble with that is , everytime you need to change it you have to get someone with the Insite program to tweak it.
I got it. works great.
Droop on the ISC are set to 2.8mph. That means that it won't release or apply throttle until 2.8 above or below set speed.
And yes EPA derates the engine. If you can get someone with an old INCAL disc and change the date you can reflash it back. Or whoever did it should have a work order with the old calibration on his computer. Good luck with that. The update INCAL discs are only good for six months.
