Dash A/C control problem
Suddenly, my dashboard A/C control is partially inoperable. It turns the A/C on and cool air comes out in the overall dash area, but I can not select the vents for the flow. If I set it on the dash vents blowing toward the passengers, nothing happens. Are these controls electric or vacuum operated? It does shut the A/C on and off. The RV is a 2003 Holiday Rambler Neptune.
Thanks for your help.

Should be vacuum.. The "failed vent position" is to the windshield/defrost ..
The OFF/ON is electric...

Like Hal said, you probably have lost your vacuum source. Either your vacuum generator stopped (could be electric driven or air driven) or a vacuum hose came off. There is also a chance that some of the vent linkage is not functioning but that is a less common failure.

Could be mixing door for vents sticking or vacuum leak.
Check pump while engine is running make sure it is holding at least -18 vacuum , test with vacuum gauge , some have a check valve down stream from pump test it also , check accumulator also.
If vacuum is OK check mixing doors behind dash .
Hope this helps,
James

Many thanks guys. Next stupid query: where is the vacuum pump? I have a Cummins 300 ISB. Is it in the dash area or connected from engine to dash via hose? If it is the engine, located where.

12volt , vacuum pump , about the size of a pop can , near the heater hoses on the outside of the fire wall, electric, and of course vacuum hose connected, has a separate fuse ; from the blower motor in my coach. Check all the fuses.
NAPA/AutoZone have them , if yours is dead.

I have seen two different failures, one had multiple causes.
One is the system goes into "Default" which in this case is spelled "Defrost" since that is the single Most IMPORTANT function. This was caused by one of the following.
Intermetent (Acceleration only) Due to a bad cruise controle slave solenoid, Leaking air, causing a loss of vacuum.
Broken or disconnected vacuum line
And in one case: A broken vacuum motor mount. (Duct tape to the rescue,,,well Gorilla tape).
Loss of a linkage or a vacuum motor can cause this to happen as well. Or something jam the motor.
