ya, it happened to me.
Yes the fan and actuator do work. Second time it has happened goes from nice and cold to blowing room temperature. Just have to find it.

I think getting the ultraviolet dye and kit to see the leak is the way to go. I had a leak on my suburban, looked for several years. Used the dye and kit and found a plug on the compressor leaking, changed O-ring and all is good.

Are you sure your losing the charge? Sometimes my water control valve provides hot water to the core when the control pins corrode. It appears that the AC is not working, when it is.

Yes as it has happened twice in the last 12 months. First charge last about 8 months and the second latest about 4 months. Maybe the leak is getting bigger which means easier to find!? I hope!

I went through a similar situation on a new car a few years ago. After a year recharging every two months and never seeing the dye anywhere they finally saw some dye coming out of the heater box drain tube. Found the evaporator core was leaking.

*****UPDATE*****
Finally found the leak! You could see dye between the clutch and compressor. Out with the old and in with the new. Replaced the Schrader valve and dryer as well. I have cold air once again. Thanks everyone for the help!

I had my dash a/c checked by a tech, he said all checked ok...my next step would be to have a shop check the compressor and/or clutch checked at the Cummins dealer. Still haven't done that, fearing the bill. Anyone out there been through this experience?

If the tech checked and it is ok would mean the compressor and clutch is working or he couldn't check it. Not sure what you are trying to say or what the problem is.

The tech checked the "Freon" level--ok. The fan works, the electrical connection to the compressor--ok, but the compressor doesn't turn on when it should. He said that and/or the clutch was the likely problem.

Mike, BTW. I was an Airdale too. AT2

Sorry to barge in as it looks like you are close to a solution...

but what's the opinions on running dash air versus genny and rear air ?

We were going thru the 'hill country' in south Texas and while we could use either since it was not overly hot requiring the 'big' ac,
chose to use the genny and rear to see if climbing the hills would be easier...

I always use the dash air. This past couple of months while working on my broke dash air I used the house air. I prefer the dash air as it is blowing directly on you and seems to cool better in the cockpit are IMHO. We're back to using the dash air and it's nice and cold.
