Dash Air Vents Spewing Out Brown/Black Flakes

Hi Monaco Folks!

I have a 2007 Monaco Knight and my dash air vents are blowing out occasional brownish-Black flakes of a plastic like material. Anybody experience this? Duct work behind the dash beginning to come apart? A/C works fine.

If you can easily access some of the ducts under the dash, you might pull one and inspect it. Very likely either the duct is flaking off or perhaps some foam insulation from in the plenum is flaking. I've had this with my 19-year-old daily driver.

Its common, its a liner inside the ducts that dries out and flakes, looks and feels a bit like carbon paper, don't think it is causing any harm.

Almost certainly that is either duct insulation/foam or possibly the foam-like vent-door gasket material. As noted, messy but shouldn't be a problem.

Unless you're dating, that is. Quite a few years back, I was on a second date with a girl that I really liked and wanted to impress. When I turned up the AC, some of that black stuff flew out and all over her yellow blouse. When she tried to wipe it off, that just made it worse. We got thru the evening, but there never was a 3rd date because of the mess (at least that's what I still tell myself).

Makes you wonder why it took this long to start flaking.

My 07 Neptune does the same. Little black flakes been coming out for a couple years now. Doesn't seem to be a problem, or at least I haven't noticed a problem.

Like baldness, it's an age thing.

He only reported it now that the 2007 RV is 11 years old.

Nothing I have tried, just pull out the vacuum and clean up the floor.

Just Replaced the ducting

So, I finally just decided to replaced the ducting. That was a little bit of a pain as I had to find the right diameter but everything is good now. Tks everybody!
