I am having trouble with my shades, the little plastic piece that the cord wraps around spins then the shade falls. I tried to tighten the screw and a little later they broke. What are others doing about this? Your help is greatly appreciated. 2006 Camelot

Welcome to the IRV2.com website. You will enjoy the conversation and knowledge of the members.

With regard to your shades, I assume the the plastic retainers broke. You will have to attain new ones from your Camelot dealer.

My experience with loose retainers has been stripped screw holes. In the past, I have fixed this problem by inserting tooth picks into the existing holes and gently reestablished the hole threads. Make sure the tooth picks bottom out prior to breaking them off flush with the wall.

Be sure to have the string wrapped in the screw tightening direction. Also, string tension should only be enough to maintain the shade at the level you desire. Excess tension will will have a tendency to weaken the screw hole.

Yes, the tooth picks work well. You can also fill the hole with wood filler and after it dries tap in the screws again.

I thank you very much for the replies. We will try the toothpics when the next one goes.

Bill and Linda....For the longest time I also thought those plastic pins were spinning and loosening the shades. What I found was that when you lower the shades you often cause the cord to come unwound from the round plastic pin. Now when a shade gets loose, I just grab the string on either side and wrap it once around the pin. They're tight again.
