I know this topic has been around on this forum several times but I just recieved my MH magazine and read Dinghy Difficulties under coach & powertrain. Have to give Ford credit for stepping up to the plate and providing service. I would like to tow a Ford explorer behind our Monaco Windsor but I am just concerned about the transmission. I have already done my homework on what type of toad brake system and wireing for the tail lights but just not sure about the toad itself. I woild like to stay with Ford but ????? Need to have a toad for every day use plus be able to tow behind the Windsor. Looks like Chevy has issues too. This is our first MH and just do not want to make a expensive mistake and create any battles with warranty repairs on a toad. Many of you have been towing a long time, any suggestions would be helpful.

You didn't really say what year Explorer you are thinking about but if you were to go to remcotowing.com and put in various vehicles that might interest you, they provide the info of what is needed to tow that particular vehicle. Hope this helps.

We've been towing a Honda CRV for a number of years with no problems. However, there are a number of other cars that can be towed and an equal if not greater number that cannot. Be very careful in your selection. Read the handbooks and if there is not a statement such as..."can be towed..." then do not purchase. I believe Motor Coach Magazine periodically issues a booklet that identifies all cars and whether they can be towed. A web search might also provide information. Good luck!

Take a look at this Dinghy Towing and Dinghy Guide. Some of the Fords could be towed with what I beleive was a small electrical change. They were towable for awhile and then not. I believe the 2012's will be towable again. Read the dinghy guide.

Thank You so much, I think remco towing guide was better than MH magazine. looks like maybe a 2011 or 2012 explorer. Thank you so much. Ron
