Direct TV

I purchased an 07HR with in motion TV i Have Direct TV at home and i would Like to install it in the MH. i understand there are settings on the satellite for Dish or Direct. is it as simple as ordering any Direct Box and having it activated and pay the monthly box fee? or do I need to order a separate monthly service. Thnx

You can just add another receiver to your DirectTV account! We updated to HD some time ago and took the old SD receiver to use in the MH!

Yes it's pretty easy to do. We just called and had it running within ten minutes.

You're probably going to need a SD receiver. A HD won't work if it is anything like my old one.

I use a portable tripod HD dish. I simply take a receiver from home when I hit the road. When you use a different dish then what you have at home, you have to repeat the satellite set up on the receiver, which the dish vendor should provide to you.

I would tread lightly when talking to
Direct TV .
It has been mentioned on here that
the mention of RV and they will require
a separate account .
Most people that are not full timers
just take a receiver or 2 from the
house when traveling .

I have had no problem talking to DTV about my RV receiver. I do have a home account though. The one tech I had trouble understanding was from the southern states.

You can go online and order/activate the box directly from DTV. You don't need to talk to anyone. You will have to buy the box then pay a monthly fee but DTV still owns the box and wants it back if you terminate service. I would call the sat dish mfg to see what box is compatible before ordering.

When we travel, I just take my HD receiver from the house with me. I have a portable dish which I set-up at each campground. The setup is relatively straight forward, input your zip code into the receiver and it will give you the tilt, azimuth, and elevation angles. Then it's just a matter of aiming the dish to optimize your signal strength. You may not get the local channels, but everything else will be the same. If you want the local channels, you need to call DirecTV and tell them you want to change your SERVICE location (not your billing location). Beware that if you do this you may loose any recorded program you have. We use our roof antenna for local and our dish for everything else.

DirectTV's TOS specifically allows taking receivers from your home with you in the RV. Been doing it for years now.

Our rig came with two HD receivers that were purchased as a factory option. I have the CC bill of sale for them and Direct has verified that we own them.

The newer receivers H25 & HR34 and any with larger number are SWM only and will not work with a RV dome dish unless it is converted to a SWM.

If your home receivers are lower numbered(H20-21 etc) then they will work with the RV dome. They will be needed to set with 18" multi switch and will only get SD channels.

With all due respect, HD receivers will work fine with SD. Even when we're watching HD, the SD channels are always available to us. If you take an HD receiver from the house and haven't remembered to change the settings you may be "hiding SD duplicates" which would make it seems as if you weren't getting any SD signals. But you can change that setting with one click and all the SD channels will show on screen.

Welcome to the forum.

My 2008 had a bunch of stuff in the cabinet that needed to be abandoned because of early changes. This could be a bit tricky if you cannot contact the previous owner. Not difficult, just some things to work through.

Basically you need to find the coax that comes from the dome. This is not a high definition dish.

If you can find the coax's that come from it, and I believe there was two, you can use them for a DVR with two receivers.

You will need to program the receiver setup for 18" round dish.
