I just re-installed my SMI Brake system (Not the Air Force One or Duo) on my HHR.

The Manual says;... Special attention must be given to a coach with exhaust brake. The Stay-N-Play unit you are installing operates from the brake lights of the R.V. in combination with the "G-Force Controller." The "G-Force Controller" should be adjusted to tune activations from the exhaust brake.

Does the brake lights come on when I use the exhaust brake????? I have a 2001 HR Endeavor with a 330hp Cummins

Thanks For Your Help Again....... Lee

My exhaust brake does not activate my brake lights on the coach. I had the wife follow me in the Jeep to verify.

I believe it depends on your chassis. On a Spartan I am told there is a 5 amp fuse labeled "Aux Brake Activation" that when pulled will not turn on the brake lights when the exhaust brake is activated. On a Freightliner chassis the brake lights are on when the exhaust brake is activated with no straight forward way of disabling. Don't know about other chassis'.

Lee are you asking so you know how to hook up the SMI brake system? If so you will need to connect to the Brake Sig lead on the Monaco 2 box in the front run bay. From the instructions you quoted, sounds like you and I have the same SMI system. Contact me rbdtanasi @ yahoo.com and I can send you pictures of the connection point and where I made other connections for the SMI.

Are you re-installing the Coach side or the HHR side ONLY? The 03, 04 and 05 Knight will turn ON the Coach brake lights with the Exhaust Brake, the HHR brake lights will come On via the HHR brake light system. On my SMI system "Stay-in Play" I can monitor the Coach and Toad brake application.

I WAS hooked up to a 2003 Gasser..... But I sold the gasser and then the Controller Box....... Dummy me.....

Our 04 HR Imperial turns on the brake lites when the Jake brake is activated. It does NOT apply the toad brakes, that only happens when I apply the service brakes.
I have not verified this but this is the way US Gear says it is supposed to work.

Pusherpilot FWIW And, Not to split-hairs, but, the Toad brake lights should be powered through the Toad Brake Light Switch and Toad Electrical Power, unless your unit has some special set-up. The Coach may have its Brake Lights powered by the Exhaust Brake System without the Service Brakes being applied. I get all the indications in the cab that this is how it is working on my coach, but, I have never had anyone follow me to check for Brake Light operation.

You're right, but I never mentioned the brake lites on the toad during Jake braking, just that the brake lites were on on the coach during Jake braking. I had a friend follow me during towing to verify that the toad lites did come on during braking of any type. The only way I can verify if the toad brakes are being applied during Jake braking is to have someone observe that in the car. So far I havn't been able to convince the wife that she should ride back there to do that, something about being the only occupant of a moving car and not being able to control it!!!

I tried to get my wife to do it too. She really got upset when I told her she should ride in the passenger seat so she would not try to turn into a shopping center! Never happened.
