Door/drawer latches for samsung 197
We just had our new Samsung 197 refrigerator installed and love it- what a difference. Can those of you with experience suggest the best way to secure the doors when traveling. A picture would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help.

I have read on here many fancy solutions to this but I took the easy, fast, cheap and secure way out. I put some heavy duty velcro on each side of the drawer. Turns out one side only would have been enough. For the doors I just wrap another velcro stip around the handles. The kind you might have to wrap your water hose, etc.
Enjoy your cold beer and hard ice cream. Ain't it great!!!!

I just bought a Fisher-Paykel unit as it will fit better in my MH. Looks a lot like the Samsung. Can't wait till it's running.

Here's what the folks at Elite Repair and Remodeling provided when they installed our RF197:
It's not obvious in the picture, but the straps have quick disconnects similar to a lifejacket strap, and can either hang on the side when opened or for longer stays can be removed, leaving only the eyelet on the sides of the fridge.

Nice. Did you have that strap made up or did you buy it that way?

PushedAround, We just used some straps we had from a life vest. Had a good friend sew them up with some velcro.

For the freezer section I used basically the same thing that Drifter did, except that I used the existing screws to mount my bracket. It might be a little overkill but I did one at both sides. For the fridge doors I used the Sugatsune HC-85 latch, in spite of my best attempt at placing the latch it does allow for a slight flexing of the doors. I haven't had a chance to road test it yet so I don't know if that will be an issue or not, but I think it will be fine. I placed it halfway between the top of the handles and the top of the unit, at eye level. I like the visual blue/red of whether it's latched or not.

We use adjustable spring loaded curtain rods inside to hold the drawers in place and the other stuff like milk and larger items. Our experience was to keep the door as light as possible when traveling. If we put milk in the larger tray in the door, when turning a corner, the weight would swing the door open even against the lock. We now use the curtain rods and then velcro straps around the handles and that has worked well for us. Hope this may help, Happy Trails bert
