I own a 2002 Windsor. The front door has become increasingly more difficult to open. It got to a point that I had to put all my weight pulling the handle to get it to open. My brother is visiting and he could not open it.

So I finally took the time to make the adjustments to be able to open door with little effort. I did have a write-up someone had posted as a guide.

It is not hard task but you have to remove the trim on the side of the door and interior trim, window trim, interior door handle and latch covers and finally the interior door cover. This took time. Once I got all of this off I inspected the the latch mechanism while I worked the handle. There is a connection rod to the from the handle to the latch. This rod had too much play, I disconnected it and adjusted it approximately 2 turns and then retightened the jam nuts and put it back together and checked the operation of the door latch etc before putting all the interior trim work back.

Now I can open the door with 1 finger. I should have done this years ago but I had anticipated the job as being too difficult & complicated, which it was not.

I just adjusted our door about a week ago and like you should have done it years ago. One thing I discovered is that the door posts on the door jam actually can be adjusted in or out. They need to be lubricated so they will move up and down in a slight arc path when you grasp them and pull or push. If you loosen the nut at the end of the post the post can be re-positioned to make the door either close tighter against the jam or not as firm against the jam. The post at the bottom of our door was to far out and causing a poor fit when the door was closed.

PS hope you can make it for lunch on the 30th.

Thank you, jacwjames, for your information on how you adjusted your door latch. I have this issue now, and I will do just what you did to fix it.

Yes I found that the door posts were moveable but this didn't fix the problem, actually made it worse. So I dug into the internal stuff of the door.
While I had everything out I sprayed all the mechanisms with a lubricant.

Door works great now.

I'll try and make it for lunch.

Word of caution though is that the outer door vinyl is attached to a flimsy skin. You have to support it the full length to prevent it from folding over. Learned the hard way, mine broke. I was able to get it back into position and it isn't noticeable once installed but still hated to have this break.
