Driver Side Bedroom Slide
Trip to Quartzite under my belt for 2017, learned lots! Day I was leaving, bedroom slide was ruff coming back into the stowed position.
Got home and started to investigate, also call to Happycarz, he's done this before, so a brief conversation to update me.
I will try to edit pictures and provide a narrative of progress during the repair. Here we go:
Pulled mattress, unscrewed main deck (large piano hinge) against the outside wall. Remove struts, and finally removed gray cover over electrical box.
Unscrew the aluminum track both sides ( if the screws are still in the rail), you may need to unscrew some wire ties from decking to allow tilting of bed frame up on its end. ( towards) passenger side slide. Make sure the passenger side is open FYI
As you can see, rollers on the floor have dug into the plywood bottom of bed , causing it to bind on the carpet and rollers. See beaver chips, as Harry would describe.
First you have to repair bottom grooves, and wood filler or bondo will do.
Idea here 7" x 36", 16 gauge SS plate, I will secure with 10 each #8 x 3/4" screws that will be counter sunk into SS plates. Secure on outside edges, rollers will ride in between screws.
One of the issues I see and so did Harry, the existing 1 1/2" aluminum angle was too short and not supportive. I added new 2" aluminum angle and it will be 40" long.
I will break thread, more to come

Thanks! But not in that area for quite a while contemplating aluminum, as it will be easier for me to obtain and work while out here....off grid...so to speak. I think it would be plenty strong for that.
Thought?

Funny you should post this tonight
Hi, Perry and John! I was just trying to explain the source of the "beaver chips" on the carpet a few minutes before I saw your posts and the great photos. I will definitely be doing that mod, though I am nowhere near the master craftsmen that you two are. All my work looks better at night, and since it won't be seen at all after it's reassembled, that's even better! (If you don't have a home for the metal pieces, I would be more than happy to adopt them though we won't be passing through your neck of the woods until May)
Had our coach pre-scheduled into Lazy Days in Tucson yesterday to address our bedroom slide that has been canted/leaning/drooping since we bought the coach in August. Turns out the rearmost adjusting bolt had backed its way out of the threads on the outboard roller assembly and was just laying there loose. Of course, it was the bolt that is the hardest to access, but they did NOT have to disassemble the entire bed box. First time the tech had ever seen that happen.
Lovin' Tucson!

John, its possible to use a heavier grade aluminum, you will need to adjust floor rollers that equal amount otherwise the slide may get out of alignment.
Any fab shop should have the materials available. You may also use 18 gauge too, dependent upon repair of wood needed.
If you see beaver chips on your carpet, good clue the slide needs some attention.

Barry its not bad to get into, need some help, PM me I will be glad to assist. In Tucson there are several fab shops, just do a google search.
Outboard rollers, I checked mine they have lock nuts on them, seem ok but will double check them for sure.
I'll send the dog under there! Lol

Repair continued today.
Drilled and counter sunk 10 screws and also added on the back of each SS roller plate some Locktite adhesive.
Now I changed from 1 1/2" angle stock to 2" and longer. Predrilled for 1/4" elevator bolts, and for bed lag screws. I used a nut and lock washer and drew it tight to set elevator bolt. I backed off the nut so slide exterior floor was not dimpled.
More to come.

Don't know why the pics posted twice, sorry. Here's the angles for securing the bed frame to slide deck
I painted the bottom and edge of elevator bolts white.
I added white ploy to elevator bolt base and stud to seal against bottom of slide
More to come

Driver Side Bedroom Slide
Ok got the bed platform back in place and secure. Before you place bed back, lubricate all rollers, slide track. Check all mounting bolts and screws for drive motor and track.
Also adjust floor roller height and adjust as needed so bed frame won't drag on carpet.
