The top part of our driver-side window (the stationary part) is fogged. Has anyone had success in replacing just that portion of the window? I contacted Monaco and I can get just that part for $225 + $70 S&H. Better than the $1900.00 quote for replacing WHOLE window assembly!! Also was told that it might be cheaper to have a local automotive window service cut a replacement and install same. The few I have spoken to don't seem interested in RV work.

Questions: 1. Has anyone had this done? (I know some of you handy-men have DYI, but that is not an option here!)
2. Any suggestions for finding such an installer? (Manassas, VA area)?

Thanks in advance,
Firedogs2

For someone local contact these folks:

Binswanger Glass
800-365-9922

They may also be able to cut the glass you need as well as install it

Or you could get the glass from Atwood at the following:

Atwood Mobile Products
1120 N. Main St
Elkhart, IN 46514
Sue Phillips- Direct- 574-266-4829 or 800-637-8938

I am finishing up on replacing the Passengers and Drivers stationary window on my 96 Holiday Rambler Vacationer. I did both windows in one day. There is a post from yesterday with photos on how to make the repair. I recommend you check with Atwood instead of Monaco on the window price. I purchased both of my windows for $70.00 each plus $40.00 shipping. They had to build the windows so it took Atwood 4 weeks to build and ship the windows to me.

They have a fantastic service Rep . I forget her name but I can dig it up if you need it. I found her name in a post from several years ago in irv2 forums.

If you can get the window from Atwood and show a local auto glass shop the photos on how to make the repair they may be able to do it for you. Local car glass shops may not know how to change the window but if you get the glass it is really not that hard for an auto shop to change the glass.

ArTravler, thanks for more helpful info. Being new to this forum and how to navigate it, I would appreciate help on how to find the post you refer to. I'm sure it is easy to do, but right now I'm not sure how to begin.

In my limited RVing experience, I have found that "fellow enthusiasts" are always willing to help in any situation. I guess it is because we have either "been there" or know that someday we will be.

Very comforting to know you all are out there!!!

I also was experiencing a problem with a fogged up dual pane drivers window. I was speaking to a friend of mine who owns a bus company and he suggested I take it to a local auto glass company that reseals all of his bus windows. To make a long story short, less than 2 hours and $70 and I was away with a nice clear window again. I suggest that you check with a local bus company to see who does their windows.

Regards,

Thanks. Sounds like a good idea. Makes sense that bus people would have info like this. It sure beats the $1900 quote on a whole new window. I still think that is overkill - especially on our pocketbook!!
