Duotherm capacitors

Duotherm AC on my 07 Monaco diplomat periodically burns the capacitors. It is usually the start capacitor which is bad but I change both since I have had the start capacitor go out shortly when I didn't change both. This usually happens when it's very hot the heat pump is running a lot. Why is this happening and is there a solution? We are full-time and this occurs about twice a year.

Send a message via ICQ to Ivylog
In 14 years and three heat pumps/ACs on my 04 Dynasty I never replaced a single capacitor so 2/year is not right. I would think low voltage...110 or less would MAYBE be the cause. Are you using the correct uF capacitor?

Yeah, I don't know.
The only one I've smoked was hooked up at home, with clean power (no low voltage) !

I think hypoxia may be correct. The capacitor stores electricity and then discharges during startup. A better quality capacitor should be able to survive.

Also, try to monitor voltage at the heat pump during startup.

Low or high volts are a couple of reasons why I think all of us
should have a Progressive Ind HW50C sys .

I am convinced it is the best elect protection device available .
It samples the elect before allowing elect to enter the coach .

It samples that the common ( white ) is present ( very important ) ,and
for low or hi volts plus protects against lightening surges .

All this is displayed on a remote screen you mount where ever you want .
I have mine mounted where my elect cord is stored .
