We just started making our new to us Imperial our own. The one thing that I have been hearing over and over is how much DW hates the faux gold trim. So 44 door pulls, 104 screw heads and 52 hinges later, I have removed, painted and replaced the hinges, light fixtures and pulls in the kitchen and living space. It is an improvement, but, you know men, if it were up to me.... I'm not looking forward to the bath area. I just want to get on the road. On the bright side DW tells me that at the price the dealer charges we have saved $1000, yea.

I agree with your wife - I hate the gold trimmings also!
There is no way I could have talked my DH into changing all of that stuff out!! (hmmm...what does the D stand for again?)

Hey Cap, Sounds like we are to the same woman!! LOL, LOL When we re-did our navigator I went thru THE exact same thing, however we didn't stop there and I suspect before it's all over you won't either so just get you list or should I say her list taped up somewhere so you can get it completed.

Don't forget to post up some pics.

First thing we did also. Lucky we only had it in the bath and kitchen.
Bath shower valve needed changing anyway, really hard to regulate with the old plastic dime store valve.

All my lights and cabinet handles and things like that are brushed nickel. Those should be pretty easy to change in a MH also from Home Depot.

Before I spend money on new ones, thought I'd try to recycle. Two cans of paint so far.

Here is how you paint 104 screw heads and the paint I used.

Unfortunately the old owners replaced the shower valve with a new gold one just before we bought it. I'm going to have to pull everything out of the bath area to get rid of the gold (shower walls, faucets, shower head), yuk.

Wouldn't a pair of really dark (welding) goggles be cheaper?

Well Mike, I don't know about that, but it sure keeps my mind off of the maze of unlabeled stereo and RG6 wires in the front cabinet above the pilot and copilot.

slick, it may be a little early for first impressions, this is our first rv of any kind, the only trip I've taken is a couple of miles from the dealer to the house. I'm still learning and these forums are awesome. I just have one thing that is really grabbing me right now. It's 10:00pm and I've just come in from working on it and what I have noticed is that it is incredibly well built. It's a damn tank. I think that it's 12yrs old and built 1) by American craftsmen. 2) its not full of Chinese parts. 3) the manufacturer really cared. I'm not just making this up, I have been all through this coach and I have yet to find the first piece of particle board. I have pulled out over 200 screws from solid oak and put them back and have not stripped out a single one. This thing is 12 years old and every cabinet is in good shape, the doors all snap shut like they did when new. When you buy screws today and use a screw gun, I guarantee that within an hour you have stripped some heads or snapped some off.

Well I could go on, but I'm going to sleep tonight feeling good about my purchase.
