Electric step?

The step on my 2000 Monaco does not retract, I noticed a red toggle switch on the dash that is labeled exterior step I think.. does that activate the step or is the step controlled by the door opening and closing? previous owner told me that it had a mind of its own and would sometime go in or out by its self. thanks!

blkcloud - if you tell the forum which Monaco model that you have, you will stand a better chance of someone replying.

Here is a link to a 2002 Dynasty manual. You never know - it may give you a hint.

Good luck.

Usually the step is activated by the door opening and closing.
The switch on the dash is to be able to leave the steps out
when parked in a CG. This saves wear and tear on the step

The switch locks the steps out when you are parked. With the switch off the steps follows the action of the door. Door open, steps out, door closed, step up.

Even with the switch operated, the steps will retract when the ignition is on and the door closed. This is a safety feature to keep the steps up when the MH is in motion.

There is a magnetic switch on the door that works in conjunction with a comptroller mounted under the steps.

Found out a lot more about the steps than I ever wanted to know when mine quit working!
