Elementary battery question

My Dynasty has 4 (dead) 12 volt batteries. The upper two are Interstate 24M-XHD, 800 CCA. The lower two are Interstate SRM-27, 600 CCA. Can I assume the higher cold cranking amp batteries are for the chassis and the lower amp for the house? When did they go to four 6 volt batteries? Should I switch to 6 volt?

Not much there for your size coach. Those group 24's are basically car batteries, not intended for deep storage. The group 27's I'm thinking are a bit undersized for starting that diesel as well. Both types are "cross-overs", meaning that they try to be deep storage and high cranking amps in one package. Not what you really want in your rig.

I use a single 8D battery for the chassis and 4each 6 volt batteries for the house.

The Interstate SRM-27 is a 12V starting/deep cycle marine battery, it only weighs 50.3#'s and have an RC of 160 Min
Being a dual use battery it's not the best for either use.
Our two DSDP's (2000 and now 2002) have both had U-2200's. I just replace them a week or so ago with Interstate GC-2's (the U-2200's replacement), they weigh 67#'s and have an RC of 474.
With your bank you would have a usable RC of 320 if you take them down to 50% charge.
The U-2200's have 474 at the same 50% charge.

Hi norwestie,
I'll let a Monaco owner let you know what the batteries are for. However, for the coach batteries, one can do 12 VDC connected in parallel or 6 VDC connected in series. If you make a switch depends on how you use the batteries. If you go from one shore power connection to the next shore power connection there is not much difference and do what is the cheapest. However, if you dry camp or use the coach batteries for any length of time between being connected to shore power (like tail gating), determine if you have room for 4 coach batteries. Consider 4 6 VDC deep cycle batteries for this situation.

6 or 12 VDC batteries, for the coach they should be deep cycle batteries.

One should also understand if the coach batteries are charged as one travels down the road.

Hi norwestie,
My 2001 36' Dynasty was delivered with 4 Interstate U2200 6v house batteries on the bottom tray and an Interstate 12v 8D mounted on the top tray. If you have the box with all the manuals there is a booklet on the Batteries connection and placement. I am still using all the originals although I do plan to replace them this year for no reason they work well but I am pressing my luck. 12 years is a long time for any Battery I think.
