Your vintage coach most likely has 2. The primary filter was added by Monaco and is most likely a fuel filter/water separator. Monaco tech support can probably give you a filter number. The secondary is by Cummins and will be on the side of the engine. Monaco tech support can give you this number also.

Exhaust Brake

We THINK we can hear the turbo, but we're not sure...mainly because we've never had anyone say, "Hear that sound? That's the turbo."

Secondly, the exhaust brake...perhaps so. I can get the coach up to about 14 miles an hour level, then...no more power. I did note that, even coming down a short hill, the exhaust brake--although switched on--does not kick in now. And when braking or accelerating from a stop, the Warning light occasionally flickers.

RESPONSE TO OLDGUY70 - Turbo & Tach

We're posting some pictures of the engine compartment, because we THOUGHT we were checking the right hoses, but we might just not be. They're at the end of the thread (as of this writing).

:sigh:

Understanding is coming...just very, very slowly.

You need fuel to fire the engine.

The hot exaust gas goes to the turbo blades and makes them spin.

As they spin faster and faster the other side starts blowing air into the intake of the engine, instead of the engine sucking it in. That is the boost !

More boost means more oxygen to burn. That, along with more injected fuel, creates more power.

If your fuel filters are restricted, you don't get enough fire and exhaust pressure to spin the turbo much.

This is why I asked when you last changed the fuel filters.

If the MH has been sitting, before you got, it the fuel could be dirty.

Your driving in the hills could have stired up the dirt, plugging the filters.

The first thing any road service guy will ask is " When did you last change the fuel filters ". If you don't know, they need changing.

CAC connections will look like the pictures below, the wires in the ribs of the hose are to help contain the expansion under pressure, and these hoses riqure special clamps to keep them in place.

The turbo will make a whistling sound in the upper rpm ranges. The fuel filters definitely be changed. Start with the simplest thing first and go on from there to diagnose your problem. Also, if you have an engine brake, make sure it is turned off.

Engine Compartment (Under Bed) Photos

These are photos of the engine compartment. Our understanding is that the round assembly, just below the red piping to the right of the engine block, is the turbo.

If anyone is willing and would be kind enough to annotate this photograph, it would help us tremendously...because we honestly don't know what we're looking at...but we're willing to learn!

Thanks to All and Much Appreciation

Oh, believe me, we KNOW how great the people on here are. They've helped us before, but nothing this serious. And once again, they're "stepping up". I only hope we learn enough that we can pay it forward one day!

Exhaust brake will have no effect at speeds that low; 14 MPH.
The picture below show the exhaust brake activation cylinder, the cylinder activation rod and linkage at the top is in the open position , the cylinder is air pressure activated, from the service brake/suspension air system and controlled by a solenoid on signals from the dash switch and the Engine Control Module. If the valve is open when the engine is off then you can disconnect the air line ; and plug it ; to make sure it won't apply when the engine is running.

EDIT: this is a picture of the brake on my Cat , the location on your Cummins will be different, but operation will be the same.

first picture.. the turbo is on the right side (of the picture)... I noticed the hose coming off the turbo looks to have moved.. you can see a bit of a gap between the hose and the ridge of the turbo...

try to loosen the clamp and move the hose closer to the ridge on the turbo and then re-tighten the clamp... not 100%.. but could be the leak

Attached is a picture with two sections circled, one red and one blue. Are we in the general neighborhood? What area are you referring to? Thanks, and apologies for us being ignorant.

Okay, with that clarification (thanks!) the blue area circled in our pic (and in the red square area in JohnBoyToo's picture) is obviously the CAC connector. Something learned. We have checked both ends of it, and there appears to be no space open and the clamps are firm. HOWEVER, "shaking" the entire "pipe" assembly, including the CAC connector, is very easy to do. Is that normal?

Also, is there another clamp or something down by what looks like possible blow by soot?

Lastly, at idle we are getting consistent white smoke at idle.
