I've got a 2004 Cayman w/ a Cummins 300 HP; question is does anyone know if the factory offered Engine Block Heaters with these engines? I've look but don't see any plug so I'm thinking it doesn't have on installed. If I'm right can a block heater be installed for use in cold weather? There may be times when I'd be visiting family during cold weather months and a block heater would be worthwhile.

Many thanks for any info.

Larry

Hi Larry

Sorry that you didn't get a reply. This is actually quite unusual for this forum.

I am not familiar with your Cummins 300HP but could I suggest that you Google Cummins and ask them directly. If this was an option when your motorhome was manufactured the block heater would probably have been a Cummins installed item.

I hope to get this sorted out before it gets cold.

You might check in the last compartment driver side where mine is..all that is there is a plug coming out of the engine and you plug it in at the outlet provided. it may be folded up in there or tucked away....I keep mine plugged in and turned off the circuit breaker to it and this way if I need it, I can just switch it on from circuit breaker.

Ours too. There's a plugin in the electrical compartment controlled by a switch in my control center. I use the plugin for other things too, like a heat lamp for winter storage.

Larry,

I am guessing you have an ISB. An immersion heater is available for that engine. It is 750 watts, 120 volt AC. I would strongly advise that you get it from Phillips and Temro or Hotstart Mfg. Check the downloadable catalog from Phillips and Temro, starting page 36 for heaters for ISB, ISC/ISL as well as other engine models. The ISB and earlier B5.9 take 750 watts. The ISC/ISL take 1000 watts. On the ISB you will have to drain the cooling system and remove one of the cylinder block freeze cup plugs. Do not waste your time with the small heater hose heaters or radiator hose heaters. They will not be sufficient for this engine. When you buy the heater, be certain that it comes with the cordset. These heaters are not thermostatically controlled nor do they need to be. They are sized to operate continuously should you desire that. Otherwise, plug them in for a couple of hours before starting the engine. Do not run the engine and the heater simultaneously or the heater element will be burned out.

My 2004 ISB also has a block heater, my coach came from Florida so there is a good chance they all had them. Like others mine is plugged into an outlet in a rearward outside cabinet. There is also a switch inside the motorhome so it can be left plugged in and operated from the switch.
